Re: MPLS based VPN using IPSec
I would look simply at MPLS. Whether the packet contents are encapsulated via IPSec or not is really not relevant. Check out the 2547bis draft and potentially some of the layer 2 vpn drafts that are available. The ietf is really your source for this type of information. Re: MPLS based VPN using IPSec
Kind of off topic, but I have to share a comment made by a respected ISP architect at NANOG yesterday, with reference to 2547: "If this is the answer, it must have been a really stupid question." I would look simply at MPLS. Whether the packet contents are encapsulated via IPSec or not is really not relevant. Check out the 2547bis draft and potentially some of the layer 2 vpn drafts that are available. The ietf is really your source for this type of information. Re: MPLS based VPN using IPSec
Ok.. maybe my answer was a little lean Here are some key drafts (watch the x in some for the latest draft) all of these are found at www.ietf.org 2547 Draft: draft-rosen-rfc2547bis-0x.txt BGP Route Refresh draft-ietf-idr-bgp-route-refresh-0x.txt BGP Extended Comm's draft-ramachandra-bgp-ext-communities-0x.txt Carrying Labels in BGP draft-ietf-mpls-bgp4-mpls-05.txt Outbound Route filteringdraft-ietf-idr-route-filter-02.txt Layer 2 VPNS (1 type) Draft-kompella-mpls-l2vpn-0x.txt Here is a mentortech paper on 2547 (cisco oriented) http://www.mentortech.com/learn/welcher/papers/mplsvpn.html Here is a link to the MPLS Resource Center which has multiple links to other relevant books and information sources. They also run an operators mailing list which has relevant, deployment oriented threads. http://www.mplsrc.com/ Here is Rehkter's and Davies' MPLS title which contains a section on VPN's that is slightly outdated by 2547bis, but still a valuable information source. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1558606564/o/qid=982878830/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_1/105-8100181-5709546 The Cisco title was already mentioned which I haven't read at this time. *** REPLY SEPARATOR *** On 2/22/2001 at 2:25 PM Howard C.
