What IOS to choose? [7:26852]

2001-11-20 Thread Patrick Donlon

Hi All

I'm looking at upgrading the IOS for a couple of 7204 routers so that they
can support SSH, I'm after a bit of info' on a good method of selecting the
IOS to upgrade to.
I've searched the CCO and found that I need an IPSec version, say the
Enterprise IPsec with 3Des, I then get a list of IOS to choose from, easy
enough. I would like the most stable IOS possible for our situation, so I
picked out an IOS 12.1(5)T9, I choose this on the basis of memory
requirements alone and the presumption that the earlier versions (T - T8)
may have had more bugs. I've then done a search on the bug tool to check for
known bugs, and I didn't get any with this specific version. Can anyone else
help me with the selection of the IOS, like what else to search for or check
before deploying it

cheers

Pat

Your choice is as good as any. Not being sarcastic, but I have been
through the ringer with IOS and Cisco for the last 6 months.
Specifically with 7200's and 7500's. TAC will not provide you with Code
recommendation unless you are experiencing issues with code.

In regards to your selection, I would say that you are probably in a
safe place. I am actually performing an upgrade this afternoon to
12.1(5)T7. This version is said to be stable as it resolves a NAT issue
I am dealing with. I have also been told that 12.2 code has issues as
well. So Hope your upgrade goes well. I have to say that I am sorely
dissappointed with the declining quality of Cisco IOS and Hardware
alike.
