dialer interface as a backup link

2000-10-16 Thread jeongwoo park

Deal all
I was wondering why some people use dialer interface
as a backup interface.
I think If there were serial interface as well as bri
interface, serial can be used as primary and bri can
be used as backup interface.
Is there any advantage of using dialer interface as
backup interface?

Thanks in adv.

mainly because your dialler interface (ISDN) costs a damn site more than a
leased line. Hence the option to use it as a backup circuit.

You can use the dialer interface to configure mulitple backup interfaces with one configuration vice having to configure each backup interface.  If you only have one serial and one bri, I find it a bit less confusing to not use the dialer interface, as it adds to your configuration.

Yes.
If you dedicate your BRI to backup it can't be used for anything else. Using
a dialer interface allows you to specify the dialer as the backup to the
serial and frees the BRI physically for other things like load thresholds,
dialing in, dialing out, and DDR.
