Re: CCO Documentation CD on Windows 2000 [7:23346]
Go into the folder that you installed the CD in. There is a file in there called search.ini. open it up in notepad and look for the line that says, BROWSER=C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer... and remove the location that it points to and change it to, BROWSER=msie. After you try to launch the browser you may get a mesage to work off line or connect. Choose the connect optin and you should be good to go. Let me know. Make sure you "totally remove" the previous install and reload after making the registry changes! Welcome to the Club!! I did not get mine working even after using information posted on this group - the changes in Registry hopefully Cisco should be working on it... but it's really amazing to find that Cisco documentation CDs are not Windows 2000 / IE5 compatible.. :-) Bharat Suneja "Jim Bond" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Hello, > > Does anyone have problems with documentation CD on > windows 2000? Re: documentation CD on windows 2000
Hey Jim, I got mine working using information from a post on this group. It had to do with a registry change from %programfiles% to c:\Program Files I'm sure it is in the archives on a few different occasions. OK Here one of them is from John Wu on June 16, 2000 > The Cisco Documentation CD works on Windows 2000. It's because the Verity > search engine does not use or recognize the search path. - %ProgramFiles%, > as you'll see in the registry. > > You need to modify the NT registry, Run REGEDT32, > > goto HKLM\Software\Microsoft\IE4\Setup and you'll see > Path=%programfiles%\Internet Explorer > > What you need to do is locate where your iexplore.exe is located and change > the path as needed. > So, if your iexplore.exe is located in C:, then change the path to > "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer", otherwise substitute the correct drive > letter. The archives of this list is a tremendous resource! Documentation CD on Windows 2000
I've seen requests for this so I thought I'd post it. I'm running it right now on Win2k and it works great. Good luck, Matt Installing Cisco Documentation CD in Windows 2000 *** IMPORTANT NOTE -- PLEASE READ *** These instructions are NOT recommended or supported by Cisco. They are not guaranteed to work and may mess up your computer. The recommended solution is to run the CD on one of the supported operating systems or to wait until the next release of the Documentation CD which will support the Windows 2000 operating system. If you choose to use these instructions, you do so at your own risk. 1. Read the IMPORTANT NOTE above. 2. Edit the Windows 2000 Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer" to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" or wherever IE is installed on your machine. 3. Uninstall the Cisco Documentation CD 4. Sometimes you will also have to manually delete files or directories from the original installation of the CD. 5. Re-install the Cisco Documentation CD and it should work. ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
