telnet connection!!

2000-07-17 Thread jeongwoo park

HI all.
I have a question.
How many passwords can the router accept?
Only one or many?
Can several administrators have telnet connection to a
router with several different passwords?
I know that one router can have up to 5 vty ports
(line vty 0 4).
Can I say that each port can be setup with its own
password, so that these 5 ports can be setup with 5
different passwords?

I will appreciate your help.

Not really a different password on each port. The problem that creates, is
how do you know which VTY you are connecting to (especially since the router
boots your connection after 3 failed passwords).

This would require each administrator to know all 5 passwords, since there
is no way to choose your vty line. Good idea, or bad idea? Surely doesn't
distinguish between admins.

Yes, you can set up multiple username password pairs

username cisco password cisco

in config mode

then:

line vty 0 4
login local

You can assign individual passwd for each telnet session. But practically
u may face lot of problem like u dont know which session is initiated.

why dont u try Radius authentication .

Hi
You can not give different password for different telnet connection in
cisco routers. But at a time you can have 5 connection(0 to 4).

Thanks

You could also setup a TACACS+ or a RADIUS Server

2501 console port doesn't respond to reverse telnet connection [7:37150]

2002-03-04 Thread Mike Dickson

I have a 2501 router whose console (and aux) port doesn't respond when
connected to a 2511 and accessed via reverse telnet. The 2511 reports the
connection is open, but I never get back a prompt from the 2501. The
console port works when directly connected to the serial port of my laptop.
Also, I've switched cables between the problem 2501 and other routers in my
lab, and the problem follows the 2501, not the cable nor the line on the
2511. I've tried the 'clear line #' command, but it doesn't help.

Any ideas?

TIA
