I don't think that is correct! The socket should _NOT_ be manually created.
The daemon should create it.

For Santiago, I suggest that you change clamav.conf to specify the socket
file differently, like /tmp/clamav.sock
I think the problem is that the user clamd is running as does not have the
correct privileges to create the socket in /var/run. So the error message
actually tells you to check the LocalSocket in /etc/clamav.conf

Please install 0.65 directly from the sources (an compile it without
optimization flags).

FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE (as of Aug 29th).
Installed clamav from:
  /usr/ports/security/clamav (0.60 Portrev 4)
  /usr/ports/security/clamav-devel (20031112)

Both with these configure args:
  --with-dbdir=/usr/local/share/clamav --disable-clamav --enable-bigstack

I also tried starting 'clamd' with superuser privs, and the same thing
happens.
Included before is the output from enabling 'debug', and a 'script'
from compiling -devel is attached.

The MD5 checksums of both the stable and devel files I have are:
MD5 (clamav-0.60.tar.gz) = eddeba4e1f399f65bc71aa2b3e901543
MD5 (clamav-devel-20031112.tar.gz) = a439afdc1a5e51c8a5ecdd2af8436d95
These are from sourceforge.

Something is really bad with your installation - it seems the
Aho-Corasick tree is broken and clamd can't realize its initial checks.
Please post a complete configuration of your system. Also try to run
clamd with superuser privileges.

Do you have bzlib.h in your include path? Perhaps you need to install
bzlib-devel-rpm or bzip2-devel.rpm, dunno what it's called in redhat.

Re: [Clamav-users] Clamav 0.65 chroot problem

2003-11-19 Thread DWH
Hi,

The problem wasn't related to the /tmp dir, but due to an incorrectly created
/dev/urandom entry in the chrooted directory.
This caused clamd to wait for data which never came, resulting in a hang.

Reijer

RE: [Clamav-users] subsys locking with clamd

2003-11-19 Thread Alejandro Martinez
Did you comment the line in the clamav.conf that says "Example" ? (I think it's the
8th line)

Maybe clamd deads when you invoke it, becuase that line is not commented.
If you not comment that line, clamd will not start.

Hi,

I am trying to install Clam AV 0.65 on a system running Red Hat 9. I have tried to
install it using rpm versions of 0.54, 0.6 and 0.65. I have also tried tarballs of
0.6 and 0.54. Everything seems to install correctly, and clamscan and freshclam both
function correctly. However, when I try to start the clamd daemon, with service clamd
start, or clamd start it says ok, but when I check the service clamd status it says
"clamd dead subsys locked". It appears to be starting, and then "subsys locking"
immediately afterwards. I have tried rebooting my system, uninstalling and
reinstalling and removing the /var/lock/subsys/clamd file.

I'm out of ideas as to why this is happening. Is it something to do with my config
file - although I have left that exactly as it came with clam.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

Hello again,
Thanks Dirk and Odhiambo for suggestions.
I changed clamav.conf so now it looks for

Next I have given ovnership for clamd to amavis (chmod vscan:vscan) but
it appears that amavis does not start clamd daemon. User vscan start

I've reinstalled the devel libraries that are used in the failing
compilation libz libgmp libpthread and also played around with different
configure options with no luck.

May please someone of you point me in the right direction or suggest any
test to come to a detection of what is wrong with this box?

This is an old RH 6.2 box upgraded to RH 8 and then to RH 9 with the
latest glibc fixes.

The box where I compiled succesfully is a clean RH 9 one, but I can't
reinstall the whole production box, so I badly need to find what's
wrong.

On this production box I've compiled version 0.60 that is running with
Mailscanner with no problems, but now it is really driving me crazy to
install 0.65.

Really sorry to ask again..

TIA

Alex

You are getting the error because you haven't edited the file/etc/clamav.conf

You need to edit the file because the progam won't work until you configure
it for your system. See "man clamav.conf" for details.

(If you just look at the top of /etc/clamav.conf it should be obvious what
the problem is).

[Clamav-users] Freshclam problem

2003-11-19 Thread Alejandro Martinez
Hi, I have a problem with freshclam.
I have compiled clamav without problmes on a Tawie 2.0 box.
Clamd and clamscan works fine, but I have a problem when I do a freshclam.
The message that I get is "Can't change dir to /usr/local/share/clamav".

The /usr/local/share/clamav directory is owned by clamav, group clamav with 755.
The clamav version is 0.65

Thanks.

Yes clamd hand and exim didn't accept any connections when the max
incoming connections is reached.

No.

only Session [1-2] stopped due to timeout, nothing more

Cheers.

Laurent.

Re: [Clamav-users] clamd dead subsys locked

2003-11-19 Thread Krištof Petr
Nick Woolley wrote:

Hi,

I am trying to install Clam AV 0.65 on a system running Red Hat 9. I
have tried to install it using rpm versions of 0.54, 0.6 and 0.65. I
have also tried tarballs of 0.6 and 0.54. Everything seems to install
correctly, and clamscan and freshclam both function
correctly. However, when I try to start the clamd daemon, with service
clamd start, or clamd start it says ok, but when I check the service
clamd status it says “clamd dead subsys locked”. It appears to be
starting, and then “subsys locking” immediately afterwards. I have
tried rebooting my system, uninstalling and reinstalling and removing
the /var/lock/subsys/clamd file.

I’m out of ideas as to why this is happening. Is it something to do
with my config file – although I have left that exactly as it came
with clam.

Try manualy to remove all three - lock, pid and sock files.
Their location depend on your configuration.
