  I cant help u with the clam prob, but I can save u writing ur own script to 
restart clamd. Do a search
on sourceforge for psmon, its pretty handy (tho I modified it a little to make 
it more useful for what I
needed),

[Clamav-users] clamavd hangs frequently

Hi,

we are running several Debian GNU/Linux (Etch) boxes as mail gateways for our 
clients. On at least two of those boxes we have frequent problems with 
clamav-daemon. In one case clamav-daemon is being used by amavisd-new in the 
other case we use a smtp-proxy called clamsmtp.

Every second or third day, clamd is shut down and needs a manuall restart. 
After the restart everything seems to be fine again until some days later 
clamd is shut down again.

Anyohne heard of this before? What can we do, to troubleshoot this? I thought 
about writing a little watchdog-script, which automaticly restarts clamd, 
when it's not running anymore, but I would prefer a prober solution.

Upgrade all clam packages to the versions in volatile.

Mixing versions is the road to madness. All components should at least be 
at the *same* version.

The version(s) in Etch / stable are old and do have problems, by upgrading 
all components to the versions in volatile, you should see a lot fewer 
problems.
