Re: [CMLHope] Disability and retirement

2017-02-03 Thread 'Susan Zimmerman' via CMLHope
Dear Lee,

You cannot collect disability and social security together. You get one or the
other. Yes, he can apply now for disability and they will consider his medical
condition and let you know. I got it at 62 because I went to apply for Soc.
Sec. and asked about disability. I did have other things wrong with me that as
a lump sum got me the disability without a lawyer or any extra help. I had
strokes, diabetes, and the cml. Good luck in getting it! We went down to the
SS office and applied in person with an appointment.

Many blessings,

Susan F. Zimmerman

Re: [CMLHope] Disability and retirement

2017-02-02 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Lee, first good morning to you. I am glad you asked. Since your husband mat
be considered to be disabled because of the CML and if so then he should
first file for Medicare benefits as soon as he can which may cover up to
80% of his medical bills then make sure that he, and by the way you as well
have a supplemental insurance policy.

And here is why... You must remember even though he may be denied and when
and if he is excepted then Medicare goes back from when he first filed he
would be entitled to hiss monthly payment. An yes it usually does take two
not three years to get approved.

If i were your husband i would start speaking with your doctors to try and
make sure that they try and get you as a disabled person. And i speak from
experience because when i was ill with CML i was only 45 years old and had
have a bone marrow transplant and spoke to one of my social workers and she
helped me through all of this and it was retroactive from when i first
filed.

I sincerely hope that your husband will take advantage of what i have told
you.

18's (The symbol for Life)

Good luck

Hi to all
My hubby was retired and was getting his retirement from his company. When he
finally got his disability they cut his retirement and even made him pay back
what they had paid him as his disability was retroactive. Medicare takes over
when you start receiving it and our company started paying the 2o% left over.
This is how our company worked. You need to talk to SS office.

Good morning to all. My husband, who was diagnosed with CML eight years ago, is

Does anyone know if it is possible to collect disability during retirement?
Also, when he is able to collect social security, will he be able to collect
both? I would love your feedback and advice.

2013-08-08 Thread Terrijeff20
Thanks for the info. I currently have PSI and they have been paying my
copays as for two and a half years I have been paying cobra to keep my work
insurance. This has now run out and the Medicare was taking over. This is when
I got the letter they were stopping my benefits and wanted me to go back
to work. I will definitely look into their services they provide for
disability help.

Thanks so much!

[CMLHope] Disability--one answer

2007-05-14 Thread loewen1
Hi Everyone,

I got a part-time job today! It's something I never thought I'd be doing, but
I'll be a sales person in the women's department of a large L.L. Bean Store
here. The staff is really nice and of course it's a high-quality sports store.

I'll start after they do a background check which won't be a problem so that
should be about a week from now. Then, I'm meeting with a disability LCSW and
going through my resume again and also types of jobs or places I should apply
to. I also am starting my volunteer work at the Hospitality and Information
Service working on the public relations committee as the media relations
person; working with the art committee choosing museums to visit and making my
first contact with my new diplomat and his family at the Embassy of Botswana.
I'll also be servicing the Embassy of India soon. So things can change pretty
fast but sometimes it takes inspiration and just being able to talk it out --
this time with you guys.

Many, many thanks.

Love,
Susan L

[CMLHope] DISABILITY HELP (SSD)

2006-09-18 Thread Ss5726

I RECEIVED MY INITIAL REFUSAL FROM SSD (SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY)
WHICH I EXPECTED.  I NOW HAVE TO GO THRU THE APPEAL PROCESS. THE
INITIAL CLAIM WAS DENIED BASICLY BECAUSE I AM IN REMISSION.  THEY DID NOT
TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE SIDE EFFECTS FROM GLEEVEC; WHICH WE ALL KNOW TOO
WELL. (I DEVELOPED EXTREME PAIN UNDER MY KNEE CAPS THE PAST TWO WEEKS
ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER  SIDE EFFECTS.JUST THOUGHT I WOULD
ADD THAT. )  MY WIFE IS THE OFFICE MANAGER FOR A LAW FIRM THAT HANDLES SS
CASES.  SHE IS VERY GGOD FRIENDS WITH THE OWNER OF THE FIRM AND THE TOP
LAWYER IS HANDLING MY CASE.  I AM BEING TREATED THROUGH THE CLEVELAND
CLINIC HERE IN NORTHEAST OHIO.  MY ONC IS DR. WEISS. I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE
RECEIVING DISABILITY FROM PRIVATE INSURANCE CO'S AND SOME ARE GETTING SSD.
SOME OF YOU HAVE STATED THAT YOUR CLAIM WAS OK'D QUICKLY WHILE OTHERS ARE STILL
GOING THRU THE PROCESS, LIKE ME. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS
ANY INSIGHT  INTO EXPIDITING THE CLAIM PROCESS.  ANY DOCTORS
OBSERVATIONS OR COMMENTS MADE TO SSD THAT YOUR DR. MADE MAY BE
HELPFUL.  SORRY TO BE A PAIN ON THIS SUBJECT  BUT JUST TRYING TO
GET SOME SATISFACTION.  BEEN OUT OF WORK SINCE I WAS DX IN MAY OF 05.
ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THANK,
STEVE
