Stus-List Folding/feathering Props
This winters project is a folding/feathering prop. I've just sent off inquiries to: Flexofold Max Prop Slipstream Anyone got any comments/observations/likes/dislikes. Any experience good or bad with any type of folding/feathering prop would be useful. Any other manufacturers recommended. Love my 3 blade MaxProp. However, not sure if a geared folder might not be more sensible for a 26' boat. Leave more $ for rum. My 35/3 has a 2 blade MaxProp. The boat moves well both forward and back ithout too much prop walk. I'm going to have it serviced this winter. Not looking forward to the bill. Sam I also have the 2 blade Martec and a 26. I have not found poor performance in reverse but I don't do it a bunch either. Can push just fine going forward. Sam, I have a two blade Flex I Fold, which goes nicely forwards and backwards and replaced a 2 blade non-geared Martec that went sideways in reverse and sometimes went forward if the blades opened together (even after rebuilding). The two do not compare. Tim Mojito CC 35-3 Branford, CT On Oct 20, 2013, at 7:10 PM, David Donnelly da...@gnuattitude.ca wrote: Sam I also have the 2 blade Martec and a 26. Re: Stus-List Folding/feathering Props
I have used MAX feathering props on three different boats, the smallest was 30'. On a CC 26, a MAX prop may be a little overkill unless you plan to motor into wind, sea, and or current much of the time. For smaller short distance racing and cruising a geared folding may be the cost vs. performance sweet spot. For Calypso, at 24,000 lbs displacement with yearly trips that expose us to offshore type conditions our 3 blade MAX prop has been great. If we were to drop the cruiser from cruiser/racer we would switch to a two blade MAX prop. The MAX props do cost more and require maintenance but for me the performance has been worth it.
