Stus-List Water coming from somewhere

2015-09-24 Thread ssjohnson via CnC-List

Hi JoelI also have a LF38 and am having multiple issues with the fresh
water system.   I know there is a leak in the port tank and the screw on access
cover threads are not seating right.  I can see a small but steady trickle of
water going into the bilge from that tank.  The center/v-berth tank and the
stbd tank are okbut I have air leaks in the lines causing the pump to run
on.  I did redo the manifold index the galley sink to have pvc ball valves and
added a foot or so of clear tubing to be able to view the flowI see the air
bubbles :-(AND, on the pressure side I have water leaking from the outside
curve of the Grey tubing in some places.I forsee a winter project.

Re: Stus-List water missing from somewhere

2015-09-24 Thread svpegasus38

Jim, On my LF38 all tanks have a single vent line that goes to sink in
head. The lines for water go to a manifold under galley sink. I had leaks in
both tanks under setee and no tank under V-berth (was plumbed). Had Marine
Sanitation here in Seattle plastic weld in new bungs. Bought a 19 gallon tank
for V-berth (only size that would fit through door) all is good now. I would
pull floor boards, fill 1 tank at a time and look for water running. It might
ne time to replace all water lines anyway.

The biggest difference I've seen is price; put the word "marine" or "boat"
on anything and the cost goes up.

As with the others, I've had good luck with a good GFCI from Home Depot; you
may need to put a bigger back-box in, though, as they don't wire too well
into standard electrical boxes as they're so big. Also, NO WIRE NUTS!!!
And you should use locking fork terminals that snap over the screws, rather
than try to wrap the wire around and tighten the screw (that doesn't satisfy
the ABYC standards):

I did the same as Jim, installed hardware store GFI outlets in both the

So if on a survey it was noted that the 120V receptacle in the head is not a
GFCI (as this was not required during original construction) and the
recommendation is to change it to a GFCI outlet as per ABYC standards. Is it
enough to change just the one receptacle and if so what is the difference
between a hardware store "weather proof" or a marine equivalent. A search of
the web has brought me nothing definitive although it is possible the marine
variety is tinned and able to accommodate stranded wire vs solid wire like
would be used in a home.

Bad thing is we don't even have access to shore power on our lake...but
standards are standards where insurance is concerned.
