Stus-List bus heater

2015-09-25 Thread Hoyt, Mike via CnC-List
Hi

Purchased the following heater from “The Binnacle” in Halifax. I did this
since we sail from beginning of May til end of October every year. Not
interested in a wall furnace just some heat while under motor (deliveries, etc…)

http://ca.binnacle.com/BBQ-Stoves-and-Heaters-Cabin-Heaters/c7_266/p8587/HEATER-CRAFT-COMPACT-CABIN-HEATER/product_info.html

Any comments on the installation? Am planning to install on forward facing
knee wall of quarter berth facing nav station. Am thinking that I will rout
the hose currently going to water heater to this heater first and from there to
hot water heater. Have a Yanmar 3GM30F with hot water etc …

Don't store smelly bags of garbage in that locker during cool weather!

Re: Stus-List water missing from somewhere

2015-09-25 Thread Paul Eugenio via CnC-List
Jim,

If your water lines are the original grey tubing then replacing the lines are a
good idea. I would also recommend replacing the fill hose(they get pretty
funky and are cheap to replace). Take the time to inspect the water tanks. I
found a crack midway up on the tank in the V-birth. I removed this tank and
now use the V-birth space for extra storage. I am in the process of replacing
all of my lines with Pex.

Stus-List boat closing!

2015-09-25 Thread Danny Haughey via CnC-List
Well, Finally closed on our new to us Tartan 40 today. check is in the mail
and by this time tomorrow she will be all ours! The loan company got her
documented for us and did the whole title search and all that. (charged like
$600!) The weather is really nasty out there at the moment with big seas and
north winds so maybe by next weekend, things will settle down enough for an
outside delivery home. If not we can go inside, through the east river, up LIS
and take the extra day or two. Not completely sure of our landing point yet.
There is a guy with a mooring near where we had the Newport Rendezvous I could
get for "a deal" for a couple of weeks or, maybe I'll just head back to
Westport point. From there I'll have to decide where to winter her. She needs
some cosmetics I'd like to have done and haven't quite decided where that'll
happen yet. I've been talking with a delivery captain over the last few weeks
as things progressed and will be using him to help get the boat home with me
and maybe another hired hand. Anyone feel like a Tom's river, NJ to somewhere
around the places mentioned delivery sometime soon? Anyway, we're delighted
about the new boat, we had all the survey items addressed by the yard where she
has been kept her whole life, which were really quite few, and had the old
diesel pumped out and 25 gallons of fresh to replace it. I think we're in good
shape! Danny1985 Tartan 40Vagabond at the moment (that would be a good boat
name!! Vagabond)___

Will you be drawing the air to be heated out of the bilge? Or will it draw

the latter heats the cabin more quickly.

OK, so the air will come from that locker unless you add some duct work to
have it draw from the cabin. Should be fine I think.

Ken H.

Spotted this on their website but your heater should be low enough I'd
think:

Caution – If your engine application has a freshwater closed cooling system
the heater unit should be mounted below the level of the radiator cap. If
the heater is mounted above this level it is possible for air to become
trapped in-line. If there is air trapped in-line it will not allow the
water to circulate efficiently and may cause the engine to overheat. If the
heater unit is mounted above the radiator cap it may be necessary to
install an in-line air bleed valve at the highest point or an in-line
circulation pump.

Stus-List info on C 37 for sale in NS, cnd

2015-09-25 Thread robert via CnC-List

Bruno:

This C 37 is at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax,
N.S.It it moored approx. 300 feet from my boat.

Don't know the owner and have never boarded the boat but from what I can
see and determine, this boat is in fine condition and well equipped.
The boat has been lightly used for the past number of years.whoever
owns it maintains it but doesn't sail it much. Might explain why it is
for sale.

My opinion.nice boat for a reasonable price!

Good idea on using that area for stowage.

Unless you sail with a mid-wife I don't see much

Danny -- congratulations! You'll have to post some photos somewhere for us to
see.

If you have any questions about interfacing the new VHF, let me know.

Re: Stus-List water missing from somewhere

I do have a mid-wife sailing with me - but I've held firm on keeping
our jobs off the boat!  V-birth are strictly off limits!

Good idea on using that area for stowage.

Unless you sail with a mid-wife I don't see much point in having a

  Jim,

If your water lines are the original grey tubing then replacing
the lines
are a good idea.  I would also recommend replacing the fill
hose(they get pretty funky and are cheap to replace).   Take
the time to inspect the water tanks. I found a crack midway up
on the
tank in the V-birth.  I removed this tank and now use the
V-birth
space for extra storage.   I am in the process of replacing all
of my lines with Pex.

Re: Stus-List water missing from somewhere

2015-09-25 Thread Russ & Melody via CnC-List

Hi Mark,

After I sent the message a thought occurred,
"maybe that's why the water broke?" ... but that
might be a little to obscure for the list so I just laughed out loud at myself.

Sometimes, I'm easily amused.

Cheers, Russ
