Re: Stus-List 30-1 keel depth

2015-12-16 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
A lot of confusion comes from the transducer offset and whether or not it
can or has been calibrated. Many owners simply know what number is too low
or what number makes them uncomfortable. I've measured my draft and
attempted to calibrate the offset but still get misleading information
(plus or minus 3 inches) so I just make sure to be really careful less than
7 or 8 feet indicated. Draft = 6 to 6.5 feet.

2015-12-16 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
If you don't have a laser level, use a water level (piece of tubing filled
with water). Lean a board against the boat. Have a buddy hold the water
level so the water is at the bottom of the keel. Mark the water level on
the board. Do the same for the waterline. Subtract.

Re: Stus-List 30-1 keel depth

2015-12-16 Thread Chuck S via CnC-List
Hi Andrew,
I use the following method to measure draft in the boatyard. I use a tape
measure or folding rule and a laser level.
I use the watermark waterline on the boat's bottom paint. I set a 2 x 4 against
the side of the boat. Then use a laser level or a string level, to bring the
bottom of the keel out to mark the board, and the waterline to mark the board,
and you measure the difference to get the real draft.

I found many of the designer stats were bogus. I measured three 4' 10" draft
boats that actually draw 5' 3" or more. A 5" difference would suggest 5000# of
gear aboard. More likely the stats posted were scewed to sell more boats.

Listers are always welcome to sail on Touche' anytime they are in the South

2015-12-16 Thread Ronald B. Frerker via CnC-List
We had three at one time here at Carlyle lake.  They were of '73 vintage and
two were shoal draft with specs just under 5ft, like 4'9", and the other was
just over 5ft; 5'3" IIRC.  That one had been stiffened with braces inside by
the chainplate attachment for racing the SORC.  However, I don't recall

go knockoff and gamble a few bucks. If it fails and it could burn down the

Looking at a '74 30-1 for sale, and have a question about the keel
depth.

The ad says the keel is 4'7".
Ads for other 30-1s say the keel is 5'.
Sailboat data says the keel is 5' , but the profile drawing of the
boat on the site shows a dotted line along the keel that looks like
it is showing an alternate shoal keel.
Can someone confirm there were two keel options on the 1974 30-1?
What are the accurate keel depths?

Thanks in advance for your help.
