Len,My experience does not agree with yours, with the idea that both the
anti-siphon valve and head check valve have to be malfunctioning to fill the
bowl with clear water.  Ours filled with clear (sea) water until we replaced
the head check valve, and we have no indication of a problem with the
anti-siphon valve.Replacing the pump on the Jabsco head, including replacing
the joker valve solved the problem, and it's been fixed for almost a year
now. We've also not had a problem with the sink in the v berth filling. Just my

Stus-List C&C37+ starboard tack / head Edd, BOTH the anti siphon valve and head
check valve have to be malfunctioning as others have said to have the bowl fill
with clear water. Black water would be a joker valve issue if you use your
holding tank. We also have an issue with the V berth sink on a port tack
filling with water so I installed a 1/4 turn drain valve because the thru hull
valve is so difficult to access. It only happens 7.5-8.5 knots. All good now
because she has been sitting on her steel cradle for a month!!!Len

Ok, so I'm pretty set in the Mantus 55lb anchor but have decided against
stainless.  It just doesn't seem worth the added boat buck. Does anyone have
any insight on the Mantua bow roller?  My roller got twisted up in the mishap
and I need to replace it.  I'm wondering if it makes sense to go with a roller
designed for the anchor? Also, I missed west marine's 15 percent of on
thanksgiving but they're offering 10 percent tomorrow and that beats the deal
on the Mantus site.  Go figure...Thanks, Danny

Stus-List C&C37+ starboard tack / head

2019-12-01 Thread Len Mitchell via CnC-List
Bruce, the head valve and/or the anti siphon valve stop the flow of clear water
into the head. Therefore both of them would have to fail. I would check your
anti siphon valve if I were you. It may be plugged or not open far enough to
let a little air in and stop the siphon effect. If you want to be sure, test
it, take the sea water line off the head and if you only get a small amount of
water it’s working correctly, if you get enough to fill the bowl and more it is
not working correctly. The anti siphon valve isn’t easy to get to behind the
vanity but it’s possible. Sometimes the little duck bill valve gets sticky and
just needs some attention. I admit I do not shut the thru hulls when I leave
the boat so I like the degree of redundancy.

Re: Stus-List Deck Paining

2019-12-01 Thread Glenn Henderson via CnC-List
I just finished the deck using Kiwi Grip. I am impressed to say the least.
I painted the cockpit sole several months ago as a test. It held up
perfectly and did not seem to stain any worse than other surfaces. It is
ultra easy to apply. It is an Acrylic (or at least water based) and cleans
up easily. It bonds extremely well. I am the worlds worse painter and got
small spatter drops from rolling the roller too fast. It is extremely
difficult to remove the drops. Also, I have had no lifting on any area. You
can control how aggressive you want the skid pattern by various techniques.
It works best on a shady day. In hot sun, it dries too quickly. Though I
was compelled to paint most of it in those conditions, it still looks
great. A perfectionist painter would be able to apply a factory-like
finish.
