Bill, I got the tank recertified by Tony Huntley out near Bridgewater. I could
not find anyone in Halifax to do it. I think it was $40,

Hi Jake,
I have the same problem. An older aluminum propane tank w no OPD. Replacements
used to cost over $200.
In twelve years of ownership, I replaced the tank twice w $40 steel tanks from
camper supply houses. The bottom lip always rusted out, cause the tank sits in
a little water in my boat's enclosure. Last spring I found a good Worthington
10 lb aluminum tank on the web for around $120 and bought it.

I'd still like to get the old tank converted so I have a backup, but after so
many years it would need pressure testing and recertification. (Any pressure
vessels like diving tanks and propane tanks, need to be perodically
recertified.) The valve and recert may cost more than the cost of a brand new
tank, which are now $130.

Mike,

I have an aluminum tank from my boat that doesn’t have an OPD valve on it. No
way to get it filled unless I replace the valve with the newer “safe” variety.
Never heard of problems with the tank material though.

Hello all. I brought my 10lb aluminum tank to Costco Halifax today for a
refill. The attendant did fill it but informed me that they are not supposed to
fill them any more because aluminum tanks are considered commercial and are
to be taxed accordingly which Costco is not set up to do at the pumps. This
sounds like a lot of BS to me. Has anyone else run into this?
