Stus-List Toronto Boat Show

2016-01-13 Thread Jean-Francois J Rivard via CnC-List
Happy New Year guys!

Last minute request:

I'm in Toronto 'till Friday with some free time in the evening today and
tomorrow. Is it worth going to the boat show to see good sailing stuff or
is it mostly power boat related?

I'm open to meet for drinks too :-)

Stus-List Toronto Boat Show

2016-01-14 Thread Jean-Francois J Rivard via CnC-List
I ended-up going to the boat show and that was a well spent evening. The
Atlanta Boat Show is not much for sail so I had not really seen new
sailboats in a good long time.

I met a couple of C&C'ers, one was an "ex" and one is current but not on
the list. He has a 30 MKII in Niagara on the lake. I also had the
opportunity to meet Peter Tielen and his crew (Holland Marine products) I
have been talking with them on the phone for 3 years, it was nice to see
them in person.

As I recall I checked out

- Jeanneau 349
- 2 Beneteaus: 41 and 30 ft,
- 2 Catalinas (445 and 25 I think)
- The Tes 28.

The big Catalina is a very nice cruising boat, very spacious and well
appointed. The smaller Beneteau had impressive room for a 30 footer and a
surprisingly "low" 155K price ready to sail / well equipped (Brand new
2014 model).

The other standout was the TES 28: Very "Low" price (75-80K brand new)
28. very roomy / comfortable looking cabin for the size and trailerable
with a retractable ballasted centerboard. There's a special system to
allow 1 person to step the mast on the boat / in the water. This one even
has an asym on a furler. Seems well made (Made in Poland) and it looks
like a nice option for a trailerable cruising boat.

I'm not currently in the market for a different boat but it was nice to
see the new stuff first hand. In a few years when the kids are grown
things might change.

Stus-List Toronto Boat Show

2017-01-18 Thread Chuck Gilchrest via CnC-List
Fellow CnC'ers,

I'm heading to the Toronto Boat Show next week and plan to get there on
Thursday. I'll be walking the show for the most part, but plan to spend
time in the Transat Marine booth taking questions and helping with rope
information. I'll be there through mid afternoon Saturday Jan 28.

I'd love to put faces to some of the folks I've talked to in the email
forum, so if anyone plans to go to the show and would like to chat about
boats, projects or whatever, look me up at the Transat booth.

Is anyone else going to be working the show?

Hi Francois, my partner and I are planning on a trip Friday after work. So
we'll miss you. Based on last year's turn out though, not a lot of sailing
stuff. This year there are three boats on display, a Hanse and I think a
Junneau and something else. The sailboat representation has been shrinking
since I started going.

The only reason I'm going is to look for a chartplotter.

2016-01-13 Thread S Thomas via CnC-List
Been 2 years since I was last there, and I agree that there are fewer new
sailboats on display each year.
That said, it is still worth a visit in my opinion. There is always lots of
boat stuff besides new boats for sale and it is not difficult to spend a whole
day there.
I am a couple of hours out of town, and the snow squalls have kept me away so
far this year.

We were manning a booth on Saturday and a quick tour of the sail boat
section was pretty sad. 8 boats with the biggest being the Hanse 41. Didn't
even bother going aboard any. I think the footprint is half of last year.

The electronics and other stuff is pretty much the same as other years with
major vendors and local chandlery still there. Although fewer sail lofts
represented.

I'll be using my exhibitor pass to visit Friday again ... but not sure why.

Chad,
If by sailing content you mean new sailboats, you won’t find too many other
than an assortment of dinghies, 3 or 4 cruisers and racers around 35-38’, and
maybe a small J boat. Unfortunately this show runs the same time as the
Chicago Show which gets a bit more OEM attention. What is there are lots of
sailing hardware from folks like Fogh Marine, Dock Shoppe, the aforementioned
Transat booth, and lots of products on Marine electronics and Navagation. I
guess it’s a matter of what you’re shopping for. A brand new boat? Go to
Miami or Annapolis..
Fenders, Dock lines, gps, or stern mount bbq, go to the Toronto Show..
