[cobirds] Anyone familiar with Soapstone Prairie (LARIMER)?
As the field trip coordinator for Fort Collins Audubon Society (FCAS), I'm hoping to schedule a trip to Soapstone Prairie - probably in June 2014. There is a strong possibility this would be a joint venture of FCAS and the Boulder chapter of Audubon. I've never been to Soapstone and I can find almost no eBird or COBIRDS reports from there. Are there any COBIRDS readers who know the area well and might want to lead a field trip - or at least offer suggestions to whomever leads this trip? Alternatively, if you know a birder who knows Soapstone but doesn't read COBIRDS, I'd love to have their contact information. Any assistance is appreciated but you can send it to me by personal reply - I don't want to clutter the COBIRDS postings with anything other than sightings. Re: [cobirds] Anyone familiar with Soapstone Prairie (LARIMER)?
Check with Arvind Panjabi at RMBO. I believe they did some field work there a few years back. [cobirds] Chatfield and South Platte Reservoir
The BRANT continues at Chatfield SP. Early this morning it was at the Marina with the usual geese, later flying off with them to the south-southeast to forage somewhere. The edge of the ice off the sandspit had 1 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 2 THAYER'S GULLS (adult and 1st cycle), 1 adult PEREGRINE FALCON standing on the ice, and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE on the spit. An AMERICAN PIPIT was along the South Platte channel at the base of the dam. Two LONG-TAILED DUCKS continued at South Platte Reservoir, first in Arapahoe waters then flying to Jeffco waters.
