[cobirds] Aiken Audubon Society - Colorado Springs - Tonight's meeting cancelled

2015-01-21 Thread birdingspacepig via Colorado Birds

January 21, 2015

Good afternoon to all!

We have decided to cancel this evening's monthly meeting. Based on the weather
forecast, word from various Aiken board members who live in various areas
around Colorado Springs and the number of various closures already listed on
the news websites, we deem it prudent to cancel the meeting.

Everyone stay home - warm, safe and dry!

Best regards.

Christine A. Bucher
President, Aiken Audubon Society

Hi All,
As usual, with the snow came the rosy finches. Several hundred are here
in the yard on and off as the magpies come and go. All three species
are here. as well as about 80 or so Cassin's Finches

[cobirds] Elbert County birding Jan 20

2015-01-21 Thread David Suddjian
Yesterday (Jan 20) I visited some areas in Elbert County along Highway 86
from the vicinity of Elizabeth to a short way east of the town of Kiowa.
Type 2 *Red Crossbills *and *Red-breasted Nuthatches* were frequent in
Ponderosa forest around Elizabeth. Two highlights in the forest along Park
Lane on the eastern side of town were 2 *Evening Grosbeaks* and 2 *Cassin's
Finches*. A small flock of *Bushtits* was at the cemetery. Outside of town
I saw a *Merlin*, and a *White-winged Junco*. A *Ruby-crowned Kinglet* was
at Kiowa. A pair of *Common Ravens* was east of Kiowa along Wedermeyer
Road. And more *Red Crossbills* were in pines in that area, but fewer than
at Elizabeth as few trees had cones.
