[cobirds] Black-bellied Plover still a Ramah SWA, El Paso County

2015-11-10 Thread Gary Koehn
I stopped by Ramah SWA, El Paso County, this morning and saw the previously
reported Black-bellied Plover on the southwestern edge of the lake. Also seen
was a Lesser Yellowlegs and 2 late Chipping Sparrows. Ducks were sparse with
only a small number of Ruddy Ducks among numerous American Coots. This could
be a result of the on-going hunting season.

[cobirds] late Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Ken Caryl Valley, JeffCo

2015-11-10 Thread David Suddjian
It came to my attention that Ken Caryl Valley neighbor Sally Cuffin had a
female *Broad-tailed Hummingbird* lingering at her feeders in the Massey
Draw watershed since some time in October. I made arrangements to visit
today to help confirm the occurrence (and hoping maybe it was instead
something rarer). But it was a female Broad-tailed Hummingbird, and she has
been seeing it pretty much daily. Nice treat for November 10!

Two *Golden Eagles* were soaring nearby before I stopped in to see the
hummer.

The *Yellow-bellied Sapsucker* in my yard was seen Nov 7-8, but so far not
after.

[cobirds] Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk in Pueblo County

2015-11-10 Thread SeEttaM .
On my way home from Pueblo tonight I took a detour south and found a dark
morph Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk. It was at dusk but I got two pics that
show field marks that I have uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog
.

I also did a little birding at Pueblo State Park this afternoon but saw
very little. It is a good thing that Curve-billed Thrashers are so
reliable when one looks in the right habitat and I did see one whose photos
I also uploaded. On my way down to Pueblo I checked Brush Hollow Res that
only had a couple of Ring-billed Gulls, a few common distant ducks and a
half dozen Western Grebes. Saw the same basic birds there over the
week-end but did get to watch a Peregrine make a try for one of the Western
Grebes.

[cobirds] peregrine falcon I-225

2015-11-10 Thread Karl Stecher Jr.
Yesterday at 3 PM I was driving west to east (Colorado Hwy Dept calls it
northbound) on I-225 between I-25 and Parker Road. The center strip has a
light rail line, and streetlights are also "perched" up there. I saw a
hawk on one of the lights, and (at 60 mph) recognized it as a red-tail.
Two lights further, another hawk was perched. I expected another red-tail,
but, no...a peregrine falcon!
 Haven't been by there today.

[cobirds] Late ibis at Teller Lake, Boulder County

2015-11-10 Thread Indra
Before work today I went by Teller Lake, the one by the parking lot for White
Rocks. The white crowned sparrows were singing, and a big flock of blackbirds
was in the grasses along the trail form the parking lot to the lake, making a
pleasant walk listening and seeing the blackbirds foraging in the grasses.
When I got to the lake, an ibis flushed and flew to the south shore. Another
was walking along the edge, directly in the sunlight. Thanks to Steve M, I
know to report them as White Faced/Glossy Ibis, but that brings up an inquiry
box on ebird, and I was unable to document them. There were also 35 white
Pelicans and a great assortment of ducks, western and pied billed grebes,
coots, and gulls (they all looked like ring billed, but I didn't have a scope).
It was a lovely morning and if I hadn't had to get to work, it would have been
nice to stay to see who else might be still hanging around.
