“A good number of people were able to see the bird today (including a visiting

middle parking looking west. It seems to hang out near the diving Common
and/or Pacific Loons. Looking for these diving loons, and looking at the gulls
near them, seems to be a good trick to find the kittiwake lately. I did a
quick count of all the people, who I know saw the bird so far, and that total
is 62 people at least. The bird has been around for 15 days (since 30
October), though missing for 4 days last weekend, when no one saw it. A good
number of Common Loons were seen today, from both West Fishing Road and in the
SWA. The Pacific Loon finally showed up late in the day, in the SWA.”

Pelicans and a few Double-crested Cormorants, plus Bonaparte's Gulls also
continue around the SWA/West Fishing Road areas of Pueblo Reservoir.
Hopefully the bird will hang around for another week at least, as the DFO
Group is coming down next weekend.

[cobirds] Ross's goose, Clement park follow up

2016-11-13 Thread Scott Somershoe
Funny follow up. After walking and birding solo, I ended up going back to
Clement Park with my daughter to hang out at the playground for a while. Upon
getting home at 4:50 pm, a flock of cackling geese and the Ross's goose flew SE
past the house! Good thing I had my binocs with me.

And I thought the E Screech Owl a couple weeks ago was a nice yard bird.

Good birding,

[cobirds] tardy Common Yellowthroat, Walden Ponds, Boulder County, Nov. 13

2016-11-13 Thread Ted Floyd
Hey, everybody.

I had a bit of time to get out this cloudy Sunday morning, Nov. 13, so I
went to Walden Ponds, Boulder County. Things were pretty slow overall, but
a *common yellowthroat * at the south end
of Duck Pond was late. Also present were at least five *marsh wrens
,* a lingering *greater yellowlegs
,* and an American mink. It's
all on eBird of course.

[cobirds] Re: Larimer RT Loon at Boyd Lake

2016-11-13 Thread David Wade

Greetings birders, Georgia Doyle and I refound the Red-throated Loon that
Nick saw yesterday on Boyd Lake. After thoroughly searching the south end
without luck, we relocated to the north end and found it there. We saw it
from the northern most parking lot on the west side but unfortunately, the
bird was across the lake on the east side. The distance, lighting, and
steady wind were not in our favor so we thought moving to the east side
would improve our looks. The loon obviously wanted to spoil that plan, of
course, because by the time we got to the other side, it had moved across
the lake to the west side. At least we had confirming looks at it but no
photos, sorry.

I managed a little time away from the house this afternoon and on my walk

[cobirds] Williamson's Sapsucker, Boulder

2016-11-13 Thread Nathan Pieplow
A female Williamson's Sapsucker was the highlight of a fairly birdy morning
at Green Mountain Cemetery in southwest Boulder. She was moving around
mostly in the SW corner of the cemetery.

http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S32519210

I stopped by 315 20th Street on my way out, to see if I could find the
White-throated Sparrow I saw there in the yard last week. Lots of birds
coming to the feeders -- I didn't see the sparrow, but thought I might have
heard its Tseet call at one point. Worth keeping an eye out if you're in
the neighborhood.

[cobirds] Chatfield

2016-11-13 Thread Greg Pasquariello
Had a few minutes to bird Chatfield this morning. Lake is like glass, and not
very many birds on it. I spotted nothing unusual. Not very many landbirds
either, but there were a handful of singing Townsend’s Solitaires, which I
always enjoy. I was startled by a flushing Long-eared Owl. It gave me the
usual look at it’s tail and lower back as it flushed around the back side of
it's cedar, but then obliged me with a nice flight back and forth in the open
space and across the road. Last, but not least, were two adult bald eagles
perched high in a cottonwood along the Highline Trail at the south entrance.

[cobirds] Merrlin (Prairie), Arapahoe County

2016-11-13 Thread Brian Johnson
I just got back from walking my 'local patch' this morning and I found a
Prairie Merlin, the first for this area, and I thought I should let people
know. I found it along the Marry Carter Greenway, just south of Bowls Ave.
If any one is interested in going there best place to park is 5800 S
Federal Blvd, Littleton, CO 80123 (the big white dome), right at
intersection of Bowls and Federal. Once you get into the parking lot go
around the white dome and park where the generators are at. Walk south,
under the Bowls Underpass and about 100 feet or so is a small shelter belt
next to the golf course by the pond, this is the tress I found the Merlin
at. Once I get more time I will upload my photos and create my check list
for ebird.

west. Also, one Pacific Loon continues in this area as well. A couple speed

many Quail hunters shooting near me there early this morning, so I wasn't there
very long.
