[cobirds] Surf Scoter; Walden Reservoir

2017-11-11 Thread Tom L
In a quick day trip to North Park, we found numerous rough-legged hawks have
arrived. At Lake Walden, a surf scoter was present. A nice surprise was a big
formation of sandhill cranes (105) high in the sky heading south. Tom Litteral,
Steamboat Springs.

[cobirds] Clement park, Jefferson Co - Greater white-fronted goose

2017-11-11 Thread Scott Somershoe
I went for a walk earlier this afternoon and while looking for a white-fronted
goose, a lone goose got up off the water, was calling up a storm and flew a
couple circles overhead. It was a white-fronted! I can only wonder if it's the
same bird that spent last winter here. The bird was right by the library.

Amongst the couple thousand cackling geese scattered around the lake were 2
young snow geese by the library. Over 400 shovelers were feeding in their
little groups all around the lake. I can't recall seeing this many shovelers
here before.

Good birding,
Scott Somershoe

[cobirds] Boulder water birds

2017-11-11 Thread Peter Gent
All,

I looked at many large water bodies in Boulder County this morning. Best
birds were 14 Snow Geese at the east end of Dodd Res, which is east of
Niwot, and Pacific Loon and 2 Bonaparte's Gulls at Boulder Res.

I looked through probably 5000 Cackling Geese at Dodd, Six-Mile and
Baseline Res, but didn't come up with anything dark, such as Brant, Scoters
or a juvenile Jaeger.

Cheers, Peter Gent.
