A correction regarding my report of the hybrid goose at Haxtun WTP. Steve
Mlodinow has corrected our identification to Greater White-fronted x
Cackling. Some of these hybrids remain mysterious to me, that I have
learned. https://ebird.org/checklist/S61405088

[cobirds] Dunlin in Bent County

2019-11-14 Thread Duane Nelson

Birders,

I found a Dunlin today in the catchment basin below the dam at John
Martin Reservoir. It moved between the two gravel bars in the basin. It
loosely associated with 12 Greater Yellowlegs and 11 Killdeer, both
unusual in these numbers at this time of year here. The Dunlin
cooperated, and was later seen by Stan Oswald.

[cobirds] Moderator note - CoBirds and posts on out-of-state topics

2019-11-14 Thread David Suddjian
Dear CoBirders,

A couple of people asked why the Texas festival thread was interrupted. It
is helpful to occasionally recall the list rules and what options they do
offer for out-of-state bird reports. Here are the list rules, from the
Colorado Field Ornithologists page: https://cobirds.org/CFOPage.aspx?pg=2

I paste below, from that page, the points that pertain to out of state
reports. Note that reports of chasable rare birds in* neighboring states*
are permitted, as we enjoyed with the recent Bluetail occurrence in Wyoming
(#8 under What Can be Posted). Also, out-of-state (even out-of-country)
trip reports and photos may be posted to CoBirds with a one time post that
includes a link to the report or photos (#7 under What Not to Post). But
other discussion, and reports of rarities from more distant states are not
appropriate for the CoBirds list.

*What CAN be posted to COBirds?1. COBirds is a Google Group with over 1400
members for the discussion of Colorado birds. It's all about sharing the
fun of birding in Colorado.8. Interesting, rare and chaseable birds in
neighboring states can and should be posted to this list. What SHOULD NOT be
posted to COBirds?7. Trip lists and/or bird related travel reports from
outside of Colorado may not be posted on COBirds. If you want to share your
trip lists/reports from other locations, please post them on your personal
website and then send a single message to COBirds directing subscribers to
that location.8. Requests for out-of-state hotspots, travel tips, or
reference books.*

Thank you,
