[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies Chico Basin Ranch Daily Update 9/20/21

2021-09-20 Thread Nancy Ransom
Today was a slower day in comparison to the last few weeks, with only 24
captures. I can't complain, though! I was able to spend some time with new
birders and volunteers, and we also saw a broad-winged hawk near some of
our nets, which was both exciting and nerve-wrecking. Thank you so much to
Jennifer Redmond for coming out and to our new volunteers, Joan and
Camille!

Chico captures for 9/20:
Wilson's Warbler 15
Dusky Flycatcher 3
Chipping Sparrow 1
Slate-colored Junco 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
White-crowned Sparrow 1

We are open 6 days a week at Chico Basin Ranch (closed Sunday), usually
returning from the first net run around 7am and staying open until about
11:30am, weather permitting. Thank you for your continued support!

[cobirds] American Golden-plover, Larimer

2021-09-20 Thread Nicholas Komar
A dull-plumage juvenile American Golden-plover was at the east mudflat of
Timnath Reservoir (Larimer County) this morning and still present as of 12:30
pm. Nothing else rare was at the reservoir. Full list and plover photo is at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S94939769.

[cobirds] DFO Monthly Program September 27 at 7 PM

2021-09-20 Thread Sharon
*A Green Big Year: My 2021 birding quest for the new Joe Roller Memorial
Grant *

Scott Somershoe will share the story of his self-powered, carbon-free
mission to record as many bird species as possible traveling only by
bicycle or on foot. Join us IN PERSON at Unity Spiritual Center, 3021 S.
University Blvd, Denver OR via DFO's YouTube channel.

NOTE: If attending in person, please observe Unity's guidelines by wearing
a mask and sitting socially distanced in the sanctuary.

The species tally is important because Somershoe is gathering per-species
pledges and flat donation for the new Joe Roller Memorial Grant
 to fund bird research in
Colorado. If he can surpass 265 species, he could end up raising $30,000.
As of August 31, he was at 250.
