[cobirds] late warblers in CO
Two additions (hooded and bay-breasted) bring the total species of warblers in CO since November 1, 2022 to 23. That is pretty remarkable. "Misses" (with a small "m") from the 2022 list would seem to be palm and blackburnian, as they have occurred more than once late in previous years. [cobirds] Field trip announcement: "Lafayette Birds!"--tomorrow, Sun., Dec. 4, 1pm
Hey, all. Hope you'll join us for the Dec. 2022 installment of "Lafayette Birds!" We'll get under way tomorrow, Sun., Dec. 4, at 1pm MST, starting at Greenlee Wildlife Preserve, Lafayette, Boulder Co., and then heading out in small groups therefrom. Should be a nice afternoon: mostly sunny, with a "game time" temp in the low 50s Fahrenheit. As usual: All are welcome--beginners, young persons, and curiosity-seekers especially so. Dress warmly (or don't), carry water and a wear hat (or don't), and bring good cheer (the only option). No RSVP necessary. Just show up by 1pm, and off we go! I was at nearby Waneka Lake during the 1pm hour this Sat. afternoon, Dec. 3, and it was wall-to-wall geese. Almost entirely *cackling geese,* but there could well have been something nifty tucked in there. If there is a bean-goose tomorrow, we shall find it. See you tomorrow! [cobirds] TUNDRA SWAN, Jeffco or Arapahoe
Greetings, Not sure if Bufflehead Lake (across Mineral to the South of Cooley Lake, near Carson Nature Center, Littleton) is in Jefferson or Arapahoe County, as the border is right there somewhere. But from the bird blind at the south end of the lake there was 1 adult Tundra Swan, in the SW corner. About 3:00- 3:30 pm. Good numbers and good variety of winter ducks on all the nearby lakes and ponds. Also 1 female Long-tailed Duck on South Platte Res.
