I, too, saw the Bobolinks at the same location today. I also saw your
report of a Clark's Grebe at Pella. I take this to be the grebe that was on
the pond adjacent to the field with the bobolinks?

[cobirds] Photos of Local Rarities for Beginner Birding Seminar

2019-07-22 Thread Mike Hensley
Hey guys,

I got tasked with leading a beginner birding seminar for the Colorado
Mountain Club's Colorado Mountain Fest on September 28th. I'm not much of a
photographer, but I'd like to include some pics of some of the more
exciting birds that we've had in the Front Range in the last couple of
years (Fork-Tailed Flycatcher, Parasitic Jaeger, Gyrfalcon, etc). I was
wondering if any of you had pics that you'd be willing to share with me.
I'm happy to include a photo credit. I'd just like to have some visuals to
go with my presentation. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Good birding,
Mike Hensley

[cobirds] Re: Access to State wildlife areas

2020-07-13 Thread Mike Hensley
I actually think a watchers license that parallels the hunting/fishing
license and whose cost contributes to the maintenance of SWA's is a great
idea. It simultaneously broadens the base of people who are financially
contributing AND provides a way to measure the number of people who are
using SWA's for non-hunting/fishing purposes. Have any conservation
organizations (Audubon?) proposed this change to state lawmakers?

[cobirds] Advice on how to bird the Ward area

Hey, gang! I've taken a couple of trips to Ward (Boulder County) in hopes

there, the town and surrounding environments are quiet and relatively
birdless (beside super common stuff like BBMA and CORA). Maybe I'm having

looking in the wrong places. Does anyone have any advice regarding how I
