[cobirds] Chico Basin Ranch banding Tuesday
Hi COBirders, Today not many birds seemed to have arrived overnight, and it was slow initially. As the morning went on, we actually did pretty well, with great diversity. It was pretty dead by noon. Missing today were any thrushes, flycatchers, or vireos, and only a few warblers were seen. Total new birds banded numbered 30. Boosting the numbers banded was a flock of Chipping Sparrows that finally found the nets. Banded bird hIghlights: FOS male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, FOS male (spankin') Western Tanager, FOS male (spankin') Yellow Warbler, FOS male (spankin') American Goldfinch, a dozen FOS Chipping Sparrows, and Myrtle, Audubon's, and Orange-crowned Warblers. Also captured were a House Wren and Am Robin banded in previous seasons, (but are probably local breeders). Also seen - male Bullock's Oriole, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. We are awaiting the arrival of large numbers of Swainson's Thrush - should be any day now! Chico Days this Saturday - see the ranch website. posted for Nancy Gobris, RMBO, Steve Brown Colorado Springs --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Join us at the 2009 Convention in Alamosa: http://cfo-link.org/convention/index.php You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. Hi COBirders, Nancy Gobris, RMBO, banded at CBR today, 7am-2pm. Unlike in town, it was not wet, and the low ceiling kept birds active all morning. Mostly small birds today. Banding Highlights: GC Kinglet, RC Kinglet, BG Gnatcatcher, FOY Wilson's Warbler, FOY GT Towhee, Say's Phoebe, SP Towhee, Hermit Thrush, male Audubon's Y-R Warbler, Blue Jays, Am Robins, House Wren, and DE Junco (still around). A RB Nuthatch spent the morning close-by the banding station chasing moths, and eluding the nets! Total of 15 new birds banded. Plans are to be open all week, weather permitting.
