[cobirds] Greeley CBC Fun This Saturday [Weld]

2017-12-28 Thread 'The "Nunn Guy"' via Colorado Birds
Hi all

Some folks on the Greeley CBC (O Street Section) will have fun counting and
sifting through the ENORMOUS mixed goose flock I saw on Sunday:

http://coloradobirder.club/m/photos/browse/album/O-Street-Gravel-Ponds-Greeley/

I saw plenty of Canada, Cackling, Snow, Ross's and Greater White-fronted
Goose--could be Brant hidden in there but I could not find one.

First seven photos show entire flock.

Thanks Gary Lefko, Nunn

[cobirds] Greeley CBC Section H Results

2014-12-29 Thread The Nunn Guy
Hi all

If I remember correctly overall Greeley CBC had 76 species, ~20,000 birds.
Section H (my group had north half, Doug Kibbe group had southern) is
bounded by O St on north, Hwy 34 on south, 23rd Ave on east and 59th Ave
on west, we had 54 species total with the following highlights:

Interesting story of the day for me was around dusk went to my Ferruginous
Hawk stakeout on F St (he finally showed up in EXACT tree expected) then I
proceeded west past Dog Park and before 59th Ave to old Great Blue Heron
roost area along Poudre River Trail to try for Eastern Screech Owl. I
played my iPod a few times and got one to appear. All of a sudden while
looking at him I noticed black blobs in tallest cottonwoods nearby ...
thought what the h--- are they?, got out scope saw they were turkeys
started watching and counting ... 6, 12, 18 and finally 27. Quite an
experience for me--they were at the very top of the tallest cottonwoods (2).

Eastern Screech Owl - 6 (Platte and Poudre Rivers)
Wild Turkey - 27
Common Redpoll - 2 (along Reservoir Road I believe)
Adult dark-morph Ross's Goose x Canada Goose - 1
Greater White-fronted Goose - 1
Snow Goose - 9
Mute Swan - 2
Wilson's Snipe - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1
Mountain Chickadee - 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 39
Cedar Waxwing - 12
Pine Siskin - 1

[cobirds] Greeley CBC Fun

2011-01-01 Thread The Nunn Guy
Great day for birding (no wind; bone chilling)! Good eats at the
Corral.

Photos:
http://coloradobirder.ning.com/photo/albums/2010-greeley-cbc

Recently seen in Greeley: Varied Thrush (private residence); 2 White-
throated Sparrows (private residence); Ovenbird (private residence);
Short-eared Owl (Latham Reservoir Marsh).

No rarities in my section southeast of Eaton but we did have 409
American Tree Sparrows; Bald Eagle; 16 Song Sparrows; 2 Prairie
Falcons among a bunch of other birds.

Thanks

[cobirds] Greeley CBC

2010-01-03 Thread Norma Erickson
Mary Kippes, Bonnie Hobbs, Terry Hunter and I did area B for the Greeley CBC,
which includes Seeley Lake and the old Berg's Feed Lot on Hwy 392. The raptors
were great. Seeley Lake two Bald Eagle to the east with Red-tailed Hawks,
Northern Harriers and Rough-legged Hawk flying around and at times challenging
each other. Berg's Feed Lot, Prairie Falcon and Merlin. To end the day a
Ferruginous Hawk by Carbody Lake. (Neuman's) Harriers and Red-tails throughout
the day. And Kestrels.
We had a total of 31 species, which is par for area B.
