[cobirds] Indigo Bunting - BCLP - Jeffco

2013-08-20 Thread Mike Henwood
Yesterday evening Rob Raker I located a family of Indigo Buntings in Bear
Creek Lake Park (BCLP). We saw the male and four youngsters. We did not see
the female, but Rob had observed the female feeding a fledgling in previous
days in the same location. The location was along Bear Creek just below the
Soda Lakes Road across the street from the Conoco station @ C470 Morrison
Road. This is the 3rd location in BCLP we have found Indigo Buntings breeding
this summer.

[cobirds] Indigo Bunting - BCLP - Jeffco

2013-07-20 Thread mike
Good morning All,

Took a short walk along the Cottonwood Trail in Bear Creek Lake Park (BCLP)
this morning and saw a male Indigo Bunting. Rob Raker and I believe they are
nesting in BCLP, as we have seen them several times along Bear Creek this
summer in the same location and on several different occasions. This morning I
was walking along the Cottonwood Trail, which starts at the NE corner of the
gravel parking lot above Pelican Point, and follows Bear Creek upstream. Look
for them once you cross the small footbridge and start walking west along Bear
Creek.

The Cooper's Hawks in the same area have fledged and are making short flights.
Saw the female bring in some prey, drop it in the nest, and then two youngsters
come back to the nest to feed. Both youngsters took short flights after
feeding.
