[cobirds] The Hybrid Duck

2021-04-16 Thread mvjo...@gmail.com
A while back I remember someone posting a photo of a strange duck at Monte
Vista NWR. It was a hybrid of possible a shoveler and Blue winged Teal. I
have gone through the previous posts and cannot seem to find it. If someone
recalls the post, please direct me to it. Thanks.

[cobirds] Re: Hybrid duck

2016-02-19 Thread Chris Rurik
Hi all --

This duck has been on the South Platte for at least four winters. It has
been ID'ed as a Northern Shoveler X Gadwall hybrid. See the comments under
a photo of it posted on January 29 to the Colorado Field Ornithologists
Facebook group for more discussion and links to helpful websites.

Hope this helps,

[cobirds] Interesting hybrid duck at 88th and Colorado, Adams County

2014-12-09 Thread Mary
Hello all,

A group of Tuesday Birders saw an interesting hybrid duck around 9:30 am just
north of 88th and Colorado. It had a ruddy body with a shoveler like black
bill and a white face. The tail area looked shoveler like and the top of the
head was dark with some greenish sheen in the overcast conditions. Our
impressions were it was a ruddy duck-northern shoveler hybrid. After we viewed
it for a few minutes, it flew south along the Platte. The rest of our group
was birding along the Platte in the mile or so south of 88th, and they did not
report seeing the duck in the next few hours.

of the sweetest hybrid combos, and fairly uncommon.
