[cobirds] farewell
Hi, One sighting of minor note to report: a blue morph Snow Goose was in a large flock of Cackling and Canada geese along Rocky Mountain Ave. near Co. Rd. 24 in Loveland yesterday (Dec. 13) afternoon. I have completed my Masters degree at Colorado State University as of this week. I need to do some life stuff back East so I will be driving across the country starting today, making stops along the way for birding and sightseeing and then driving to see my family in Conn. for Christmas. I'll be living in the DC area, a place that I lived for many years. I will do some last minute birding in the Northern Front Range this morning, searching for but probably striking out on seeing a Northern Pygmy-Owl. Through my enjoyment of birding during my brief time here I've gotten to know some of you as well as increasing my life list by quite a bit. Thanks for any help that you have provided me. It was also fun to become reacquainted with birds that I hadn't seen for a long time before I came here. I will miss Colorado and would love to live here again someday if things work out. Good luck with the CBCs. Scott Baron Loveland, Colo. soon to be in Gaithersburg, Md. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Farewell Cranes
Today under mild conditions, the crane departures have been constant since about 9:30 this morning. Always sad to see them go. But then the excitement begins to focus on migrating landbirds. How can a birder ever be bored? John Stump and I birded together this week for the first time since the pandemic started over a year ago. We both have had our shots and it was very enjoyable to get out and bird together. Numerous Sagebrush Sparrow east of Antonito made the trip great from the beginning. One sat up and sang which was wonderful. John Rawinski Monte Vista, CO -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Farewell Cranes
As I write this, 10:09 am scores of cranes are high aloft and headed north on what appears to be favorable se winds aloft. You have to strain your eyes to see these tiny specks against the vast blue sky. Last night I still saw 4,000 birds at Monte Vista NWR but those will be dwindling on favorable winds. All in all, it was a bit of a strange year. The manicured and mowed barley fields where normally birds flocked to feed in, were relatively avoided. Many Birds seems to be flying some distance from the refuge morning and evenings to other locations. Birds did use the barley field to the west of the MNVWR Headquarters but that is a long ways away and viewing not very favorable. During mid day, there were 4 to 6,000 birds at the east side Hwy 15 turnout, so that went well. I really like the new hours that were approved recently. Now us photographers can get into the refuge a little earlier to scout out birds, clouds, winds and potential photographs. Farewell to our friends until fall. Time to shift the focus to upland birds! [cobirds] Farewell (No Sightings)
Dear Cobirders, It is with great sadness that I must say goodbye (for now) to Colorado. I have accepted a job in southern California and will be leaving soon. The up-side for me is the enormous size of the California state list! The down-side for me is leaving the great people, the hospitality, and the birds that this state holds. Colorado in general, and Boulder County specifically have been one of the nicest places I've lived in to watch birds. If for some insane reason you miss my ranting posts, feel free to poke around on LA County Birds (a Yahoo Group); I'm sure I'll be doing the same down there. [cobirds] Farewell to Colorado
Hi Cobirders, My family and I recently relocated to Florida, but will always have fond memories of our time spent in the high mountains of Colorado. Having birded Lake County for 5 1/2 years as my personal "patch" was a lot of fun, adding many new birds to the county list and getting to know all the mountain species on a daily basis. Anyone interested in my personal annotated Lake County bird list may email me for a copy. I've enjoyed Cobirds; thanks to everyone who makes in happen. -- Tim Kalbach Clearwater, Florida formerly Leadville, Colorado -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Farewell, no bird sightings
Hi all, My wife Joanna and I are moving out of Colorado, and we would like to say a quick word of thanks to all of you. When we first move here seven and a half years ago from Massachusetts, we were not sure what the birding community would be like, afterall, Mass has one of the most active group of birders I was aware of at the time, but of course just a few trips in CO later we realized we had joined this wonderful family of birders who welcomed us and made us so at home. Now it is time to say goodbye, Joanna and I are moving to Arlington, VA, where career opportunities and mid-atlantic warblers await. Should you be in the DC metro area, feel free to contact us so we can go birding together. My email address is AT yahoo.com Thanks again and goodbye, Joanna and Chishun Superior, CO -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group. [cobirds] Farewell to the hummingbird, October 1st, Larimer County
We had several hummers at our feeder still around September 16-19th. Then there seemed to be a single hummer every day, mostly morning and evening visiting the feeder. We are thinking it is a probable ruby-throated. There were no orangish flanks and a shadow of a chin. It could have been black-chinned. In any case, it passed by the feeder one last time the evening of September 30th and was gone all day yesterday and today. We bid it farewell and hope she/he found their way south..
