It seems not. But you could add the attribute AFTER aggregation, using an
XSL transform.

You sitemap would look like this:

... and in the stylesheet (set-root-page-type.xsl) you would have:

...

XSLT is your friend! ;-)

Does that make any difference ?? Also which is the best place to check

XSP in Cocoon 2.0.3 - which XML Parser is it using?

2002-09-10 Thread Jesse Reynolds

Hi

What XML parser is being used by XSP in Cocoon 2.0.3 ???

If I use the following in a pipeline:

Then it's not using the same XML Parser as for a more usual:

And in particular I have edited the source code for JaxpParser.java
to turn on the "allow-java-encodings" feature of Xerces so I can use
such text encodings as MacRoman, which works fine for the simpler
map:generate above, but when I add type="serverpages" it stops
recognising MacRoman, so I can only assume XSP is not using the same
XML parser interface

How do I fix this?

Thankyou

Jesse

My Sitemap and XSLT look quite similar to yours, but the only way I can
include external images into the SVG is through a http:// URL. This might be
a solution for your Problem with including dynamically generated images. But
for me it is not a that good solution, since the http:// URL on my
develpment system is different from the one on the production system.

> The example above doesn't work.
Being able to use the cocoon: protocol would be great, but it does not seem
to work in my webapp either. Do you have any idea why? I've already tried it
with cocoon 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and 2.0.3. I think this should be fixed if
possible...

I suppose this only works with absolute paths, which is again no good
solution for me. Have you ever had it running with relative paths? I wasn't
able to...

Using XMLForm with Mod-DB actions

2002-09-10 Thread Bobby Mitchell

I am trying to use XMLForm and the Mod-DB actions together. Mod-DB can
take the request-parameter from XMLForm and perform an action, in this
case, a select using a unique email address. In my XMLForm Bean the
variable for this email address is EMAIL, so the request parameter is
also EMAIL. Mod-DB tries to do a select ... where EMAIL=?, where ?= the
request parameter TABLE_NAME.EMAIL.

I tried using

This adds a PARAM = TABLE_NAME.EMAIL to the sitemap, but mod-db doesn't
use this. The ? = null in this case.

I added [EMAIL PROTECTED] to the end of the URL as
request parameters and mod-db got the correct data from the db, but
XMLForm generates an error because TABLE_NAME.EMAIL is not in the bean
as a variable.

Basically, I want to know how I can match these things up.
Can anybody help?

TIA

That would be the modular db action.

Re: JSP Server Page

2002-09-10 Thread Sushil Bhattarai

Ok, I got Cocoon 2.0.3 but I cannot get it to work. As far as documentation is concerned, with Tomcat 4.0.1 there aren't any configuration required. Like it said, I dropped cocoon.war in webapps directory. I'm getting sitemap compilation error when trying to access Cocoon. I'm using jdk1.3.1. Does that make any difference ?? Also which is the best place to check Cocoon log. Neither cocoon/web-inf/log nor Catalina/log seem very helpful

Is there any way that I can override the defaults and have the action try to set just
the column and not the table_name.column?

2002-09-10 Thread Lajos Moczar

Again, that's because you are using 2.0.2. JSPGenerator & JSPReader are
BROKEN in 2.0.2. Upgrade to 2.0.3 or search the mail archives for the
patches I posted for these files in 2.0.2

Hi
Like you suggested I put jasper-compiler.jar in WEB-INF/lib. The source already starts with "/" in the sitemap. Still I'm not able to run the sample link properly. Re: german umlaut!

2002-09-10 Thread Wolle

hi everybody!

thank you very much for the help. but i still have the problem.
the html and pdf output is ok. as soon as i produce text-output i get
UTF-8 code although i forced cocoon to produce iso 8859-1 by using:

 iso-8859-1

the saved text-file is indeed UTF-8 coded because the unix-command 'file'
confirms the result.

right now i am using a workaround by reencoding the saved file
via: 'recode UTF-8 file.txt'

i tested for quite a long time. this is a working solution without cocoon
2.0.3.

maybe there is more luck with cocoon 2.1.

Need to build source to upgrade built-in logicsheet?

2002-09-10 Thread gv

Hi,

Do I need to download and build the entire Cocoon
2.0.4-dev from source to upgrade a built-in
logicsheet?

A newer version of util.xsl than in the 2.0.3 release
would fix my problem.

It'd be great if I could just download the newer
util.xsl, put it somewhere, and have Cocoon recompile
it. Since I don't see util.xsl anywhere in the binary
distribution directories, I'm not sure if this is
possible.

Thanks,
John

[conference] Cocoon GetTogether | Belgium | 2002-11-19

2002-09-10 Thread Steven Noels

   Cocoon GetTogether - 2002-11-19 - Belgium
   http://outerthought.org/cocoon/gettogether/

I am pleased to announce the first edition of the Apache Cocoon
GetTogether, a one-day event for both Cocoon developers and users to
exchange information and discuss the further evolution of Apache Cocoon.
We are very happy to receive a cast of well-known Cocoon experts, which
we are sure will offer you news and information right from the horse's
mouth.

Apache Cocoon is an XML publishing framework that raises the usage of
XML and XSLT technologies for server applications to a new level.
Designed for performance and scalability around pipelined SAX
processing, Cocoon offers a flexible environment based on a separation
of concerns between content, logic, and style. To top this all off,
Cocoon's centralized configuration system and sophisticated caching help
you to create, deploy, and maintain rock-solid XML server applications.

More information about Apache Cocoon at http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/.

The event is to be held on November 19th 2002 near Ghent in Belgium -
more information, detailed agenda and speakers list are available from
http://outerthought.org/cocoon/gettogether/

This event will be free of charge, but registration is required.

Caveat: this is *not* an official ASF event - it is organized and
sponsored by Outerthought - the Java, XML and Open Source Competence Center.

Best regards,

hi all Cocoon gurus,

I got a question. How do you guys automate testing in Cocoon ?
I mean let say i write some logicsheet or XSLT or XSP etc. How do 1
check that the script that i feed to cocoon is actually correct with
an automated system?

It would be great if someone can provide some clues here

Latest Cocoon in CVS has a favicon that shows in my browser.
If it does in your too, then you already have a live example.
If not, look at the Microsoft website or search in Google for
favicon.ico, there are really many examples avaliable.

Hope it helps.

RE: using xsl transformation twice

2002-09-10 Thread Morrison, John

You are trying two different methods.

When you do multiple s it applies one
to your xml, then the next to the _output_.

Multiple s combine seperate xsl into
one then applies a transform.

xsp:element root element bug?

2002-09-10 Thread Sanne de Roever

Hi,

I've been using the xsp:element, and xsp:attribute tags with succes when
creating svg.
But now I would like to wrap the root element svg in such a tag, so I can
adjust the width and height.
The could/should be like this:

http://apache.org/xsp";
 xmlns:xsp-request="http://apache.org/xsp/request/2.0";
>

 500
 500

  none
  M 100,200 z

  matrix(1 0 0 1 0 26)
  Hello world

My own svg is more complex, but the bottom line is that using an xsp:element
tag for a root element doesn't work.

Could this be a bug?

Regards,

Sanne

I have java-encodings working now for standard xml pages parsed by
Cocoon, but alas XSP pages are not working.

How can I find out what XML parser is being instantiated for XSP
files? I've tried running unzip over all the .jar files in
WEB-INF/lib of C2.0.3 but can't find any matches for the classes
mentioned in the stacktrace near the error...

upload file-overwrite permission(Waiting for reply...)

2002-09-10 Thread Niket Anand

Hello All,
I am able to upload any file to /WEB-INF/work/image-dir directory as
specified in web.xml file.
If I want to upload same file again, it saves to directory with 1_image.gif
name(it saves with new file name by appending 1_ before actual file name).
I donot want to save it with new name but I want it to overwrite the
previous saved file.
How can I do this? as in CocoonServlet.java, it restrict the permission as
 private static final boolean ALLOW_OVERWRITE = false;

Please suggest any solution such that it can overwrite the file.
Thanks,
Niket

xsp:element root element bug?

2002-09-10 Thread Sanne de Roever

Hi,

I've been using the xsp:element, and xsp:attribute tags with succes when
creating svg.
But now I would like to wrap the root element svg in such a tag, so I can
adjust the width and height.
The could/should be like this:

http://apache.org/xsp";
 xmlns:xsp-request="http://apache.org/xsp/request/2.0";
>

 500
 500

  none
  M 100,200 z

  matrix(1 0 0 1 0 26)
  Hello world

My own svg is more complex, but the bottom line is that using an xsp:element
tag for a root element doesn't work.

Could this be a bug?

Regards,

Sanne

Subject: [SUMMARY] How to encode ISO-8859-1 characters into the Database?

Barbara:

Thank you Very much! It works fine now!

Antonio Gallardo

*
SOLUTION by Barbara Post :) :
go to the sitemap and ensure that XML and HTML serializers have the
following
tag:

iso-8859-1

*
CAUSE by Barbara Post:
Sitemap overrides XSP/XSL encoding

*
PROBLEM by me :(

I create the Database now using the following string:

createdb -E LATIN1 -e mydb

Where,
LATIN1 is the encoding used by the database
mydb is the name of the database

Now When I wrote: "Olé"
When I retrieve the values there are: "Olé"

Also, I used at the beginning of the XSP pages the string:

What is wrong?

*
The first request:

PLATAFORM:
Cocoon 2.0.3
Tomcat 4.1.9
PostgreSQL 7.2.1.

PROBLEM:

If I store a string value, like "Olé" in the Database without using Cocoon.
I
retrieve it and see "Olé". The same string.

With Cocoon:
I need to store values to the Database like "Olé". I saw that the Cocoon
manipulate the data like UTF-8 and not in the code ISO-8859-1. How I can
change this feature to make Cocoon work in ISO-8859-1 code?

I hope it will help anybody :) And thanks again Barbara :)

Re: german umlaut!

2002-09-10 Thread Wolle

hi!

i tried to modify the sitemap.xmap in the following way:

 iso-8859-1

but the result was negativ. i wasn't able to find some other files for
changing the output to text-style. (i used grep for finding the string
UTF / iso)

does anybody know another hint?

RE: Connecting to MS SQL Server

2002-09-10 Thread Christopher Watson

Lars

Best is to buy/beg/steal/borrow the book
Cocoon: Building XML Applications by Carsten Ziegeler, Matthew Langham
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735712352/

http://www.newriders.com/books/product.asp?session_id={64B81A3A-2F82-408F-9C
DB-DF29BD5567CE}&product_id={C3C05052-BE3B-4E06-A60A-13FB40AF58F6}

Failing that you can try the online docs,
ESQL is part of XSP, so I'd start at

http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/userdocs/xsp/index.html
or on your installation at
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/documents/userdocs/xsp/index.html

to get started with XSP. Then try the EQL link

http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/userdocs/xsp/esql.html
or on your installation at
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/documents/userdocs/xsp/esql.html

--- OR ---

You could use an SQL transformer to get at SQL. See
http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/userdocs/transformers/sql-transformer.html
or on your installation at
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/documents/userdocs/transformers/sql-transformer
.html

Thanks a lot Christopher..

In your mail, you mention esql. Do you know any resources on this subject?
How would I write SQL statements with esql, when I've used the
tags that you indicated?

Lars

Assuming you're using the Microsoft 2000 JDBC driver,

1 Copy the three libraries from the unpacked distribution

msbase.jar
mssqlserver.jar
msutil.jar

to WEB-INF/lib

2 Add com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
to init-param in WEB-INF/web.xml, ending up with someting like ...

  load-class

com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver

3 Declare the datasource in cocoon.xconf, thus

jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=mydb
myuser
mypassword

By the way, as far as I can gather, you CAN'T use windows authentication
with the JDBC driver,
so you must set the server to use mixed security. That might cause your
sysadmin to flutter!

Now you can use mypool as a pooled connection name, e.g. in esql as
  mypool

As for what you can do with esql, that's another story !

I suggest that you stick to the "/favicon.ico" URL because some browsers
will request that URL regardless of the element.
