Re: Generator for OpenOffice

2003-03-11 Thread Alexandru COSTIN
Hello,
You should check www.axkit.com for an Open Office XSL filter (AxKit is
a Perl version of Cocoon)
However, I don't know if this is free.

Re: XML - XSL Editors?

2003-01-30 Thread Alexandru COSTIN
Hello,
We have a very powerful IDE called KrysalIDE especially designed to
understand the concept of XSP, taglibs and pipelines.
Even if visual preview is yet under heavy development (we have recently
integrated mozilla in KrysalIDE and drag&drop on the HTML preview "a la
Dreamweaver" will be implemented sometimes in the next 4 months - see
the attached picture).

It already provides some interesting features for our "Cocoon clone" -
Krysalis, and we are considering porting it to coocon if there will be
enough interest. (it is a commercial product)

See more about KrysalIDE at http://www.interakt.ro/products/KrysalIDE/

We have tag completion capability for any taglib and for XSLs, visual
link between XML and XSL (that means that when you are coding an XSL,
the matched XML nodes are highlighted, you can drag&drop from the XML
tree to the XSL tree to automatically have the XSL code built for you,
etc,)

Hello,
We have a very powerful editor (KrysalIDE) designed to help visual
XML/XSLT editing in the Cocoon spirit. Actually we have developed a
"Cocoon clone" - Krysalis, for PHP developers, and we have this IDE
which is pretty powerful and already designed to understand what a
pipeline is.

We even plan to release a Cocoon version later on, but we've seen
little interest from the part of thi group.

See more about it at http://www.interakt.ro/products/KrysalIDE/

Hello,
You might also like to test Krysalis, it does pretty the same thing
like Cocoon in PHP, using Sablotron as the XSLT transformer.
We are still working to make the solution faster as for now our
pipeline has a pretty slow implementation, but you might consider giving
it a try.

Your requests are welcome, we are eager to find out what would you need

RE: KrysalIDE for Cocoon2

2002-04-16 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Aha.
Never used emacs, but I have friends that use it for C editing with all
the code completion features.
Anyway, (I don't want flame wars) is Emacs a real IDE? Plain XML
editing doesn't really help to develop Cocoon applications in a
productive manner.
We would like (with KrysalIDE Enterprise) to reach the level of (for
example, because we are Ultradev extenders ourselves) Macromedia
Ultradev. Database bindings, visual editing, team work, etc.

I understand that right now XML/XSL publishing is pretty difficult, but
if there are no tools for the large amount of wannabe gurus, the
technology won't be broadly accepted. There was a thread on this list
"why isn't Cocoon used in the commercial world". The missing tools are
one of the reasons.

We are striving to make Krysalis/KrysalIDE very good for web services
development, because we think that this is the industry trend right now,
and Microsoft will educate lots of users/developers to use and create
web services, and some users will (eventually) want a free solution
(that's why Krysalis is right now, and probably Cocoon).

Those potential users/developers will not use Emacs for editing, I can
bet on that. I am writing this email from Evolution/Redhat, and Open
Source software is what we do and use at InterAKT, but I didn't
considered migrating to Emacs while being a developer, nor I will
consider in the future.
Anyway, this mail received 6 month ago might have converted me to
Emacs. Right now it's too late :)

RE: KrysalIDE for Cocoon2

2002-04-16 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Hi,

We also would like to create a WYSIWYG editing tool, but for now this
is way too costly, because you would need a lot of man hours to
implement:
- custom DHTML editor (to edit XSLs)
- XSL template canonizer (to detect XSL editing and to convert them in
to stylesheets)

> i.e. a tool targetted to the users of Cocoon, it's adminstrator.
So you are saying that the developers have a simple task when it comes
to developing web applications? I don't think so. We had a 4 members
team to work on a pretty impressive Cocoon project.
It was EXTREMELY hard to do the job (we have finally lost the project
from other reasons anyway), because we had no IDE (could you tell me an
IDE that knows to edit PXP files in an intelligent way?), no debugging
(I've heard JBuilder knows Cocoon 1, but I've never played with it), no
easy way of loading the PXP output (basically we were editing in
Ultraedit and testing in the XML viewer of Internet Explorer).
It was a very unpleasant experience, and I would like to know where are
those tools, because it might help us a lot ...

> Developers of components/stylesheets are well-served by
> various IDEs already.
Can you write a list?

> An XML processing pipeline aware tool could also be used to
> generate code for other environments, e.g the XML-Pipeline

Could you be more specific on that?

KrysalIDE for Cocoon2

2002-04-16 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Hello,
I am Alexandru COSTIN and I am Product Manager at InterAKT Online.

We are working on a architecture pretty similar with Cocoon2 one, but
based on the PHP application server, named Krysalis. While developing
Krysalis, we have seen the potential of a IDE for this kind of XML/XSLT
publishing framework.

That's how KrysalIDE was born, and we have already released a
preliminary 1.0 Foundation version, that demonstrates some concepts
while not being very useful for production use.

We have started now working on a commercial product, named KrysalIDE
Enterprise, that will have to allow web applications development with
ease. One of the most important features in KrysalIDE Enterprise will be
(we hope to get there) the Cocoon 2 support. That's why I would like to
find more things from you related to the Cocoon2 market. I would like to
know how many cocoon2 users are in the market, and how much development
was paid for the Cocoon2 sites development.

More details on KrysalIDE can be found at
http://www.interakt.ro/products/KrysalIDE/

I will also paste one of my mails to the current registered clients in
our Krysalis newsletter section, meant to reveal the most important
features of a IDE for XML/XSLT developers.

Sincerely,
Alexandru

You are receiving this mail because we are willing to understand your
needs in the XML/XSL software development market.

As you already know, we are great supporters of the Open Source software
community, and we have a lot of products that are, and will be open
source. We are also a commercial a company, and we have to sell things
to continue providing quality solutions.

That's why we intend to create a powerful commercial extension to
KrysalIDE, KrysalIDE Enterprise. The extension will include new features
and it be a step closer to enterprise class application development with
PHP.

The goals for KrysalIDE Enterprise are:
- help developers create fusebox web applications (complete separation
of content, application logic and presentation)
- help developers create web services (SOAP, WDSL)
- allow code reuse between web applications
- also support Cocoon2 as application server

I will outline the feature map below, to give you a clearer view on the
forthcoming product:
- improved project management (include wizards for web application
instant creation)
- sitemap visual editing (allow pipeline definition in an intuitive
manner)
- database bindings (create recordsets visually)
- taglib visual editors (introspect and parameterize the reusable code
blocks)
- improved code editing (syntax highlighting, code completion for taglib
names and attributes)
- visual link between the XML trees and the XSL templates (to help you
link the data with the presentation layer)
- XML trees XPATH canonization (for easier viewing)
- SOAP services creation wizards (complete SOAP 1.1 implementation,
WDSL, UDDI and ebXML support)
- integrate a commercial DHTML viewer
- implement Cocoon2 support (use KrysalIDE Enterprise to develop
software for Cocoon2)
- Krysalis improvements
   - higher performance
   - cache per pipeline support
   - improved XML and code aggregation

We plan to release KrysalIDE Enterprise in the $200-$500 price segment.

I would really like to know you opinions on our goals.
- Would you support it, are you interested in this kind of product?
- What do you think on the price/features ratio?
- What would make you buy KrysalIDE Enterprise?
- What features are missing from our list?
- Do you plan to create powerful web applications for B2B communication?

Please don't hesitate to write me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Only
knowing our clients' needs we'll be able to create useful products.

More details on KrysalIDE Enterprise will be published son at :
http://www.interakt.ro/products/KrysalIDE/

XSP code reuse problems

2001-09-03 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Hello,
Trying to implement the code reuse with the XSP method reusePart,
I've come into problems when the method should use the esql taglib.
When I write a simple method, it works flawlessly and it's
reusable.
But when I try to add a esql quey, I ran into problems.
The pasted code below does not execute the esql part, and I think
this happend because the code fragment is locate above the tag.

private void TwoLevel(String param) throws SAXException {
AttributesImpl xspAttr = new AttributesImpl();
int k = 1;
int idinf = 0;

select * from v_inf where (idinf_inf is
null and idtype_inf=1) order by name_itm

param

}

Re: XSP code reuse between files

2001-09-02 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Thank your for your suggestion.
I wonder though how can this mecanism be used when trying to reuse the
XSP code between multiple files...
I would like to avoid redefining the reusedPart method for everypage,
as it's definition will remain unchanged

XSP code reuse

2001-08-31 Thread Alexandru COSTIN

Hello,
I have created succesfully some dynamic pages using cocoon, but I have
one question about code reusability.
The main problem is that in the XSP file, I have XML trees that are
very similar, except for a parameter.

I will paste some code snippets below

select * from v_inf where idtype_inf=6

This part has to be repeated (with the same columns and structure) with
idtype_inf=7,8, etc.
How can I do this without rewritting this code snippet x-times? A
standard include mecanism has to be possible in Cocoon, or this can be
done otherwise.
I think I have a solution, but I don't know if it's the best one. This
part can be embedded in a XSP:logic loop that uses an array with the
6,7,8 values and pass the values to the embedded part.

Alexandru
