Re: Please help with instalation

Boris,

A quick and easy answer might be to try your build with JDK 1.3 as there are
complications with 1.4 and the database connections.

 Hi,

together with our publisher (www.newriders.com), we are looking for people
interested in reviewing chapters from our book. Hopefully you will have
something positive to say and then your quote may be used in the book or
to
 promote it.

If you would be interested then please send me an email. Please note that
we
will only be able to suggest (!!) reviewers - our publisher will choose.
And
probably only a few of those in the end.

 Thanks

Wow, these are completely excellent. And to think I could have found them
myself if I had had half a brain and looked on the Cocoon links
 page! (http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/cocoon-links.html)

OK, well, I must now revise my original opinion slightly. Cocoon is not
lacking startup tutorials or projects as badly as I thought. What it is
 lacking, however, are:

 1) Tools. A web-based management UI for Cocoon would be a Very Good
Thing,
and very helpful in getting wider adoption.

 2) Marketing! If some large consulting companies (like, say, IBM
Services?) got behind Cocoon in a big way, that would greatly expand its
marketshare and mindshare. And then would come the O'Reilly book, and the
New Riders book, and the Addison Wesley books... you know a product's made
it when the bookwriters get interested :-)

Thanks very much for the tutorial pointers and I wish I'd had enough of a
clue to find them myself. Still, at least I haven't wasted *too* much
time.
 Cheers!
 Rob

Hi all,

This is likely an easy question so here it is:

I have obtained and built cocoon2 from the cvs and it loads and operates as
expected with this one issue. When I select the Portal Authorization link
to get to the sunspotdemo I receive a file not found 404 message back from
Apache Tomcat/4.01.

So I looked in the my COCOON_HOME and noticed that there is no sitemap.xmap
in the sunspotdemo directory only four directories images/ profiles/
resources/ and styles/ with no other files.

The build command I used was:

./build.sh -Dinclude.webapps.libs=yes -Dinclude.scratchpad.libs=yes
webapp

Anyone see what I missed?

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Re: Help building

2002-02-12 Thread Brian Blakeley

Tim,

It is around somewhere but if I remember correctly you need to add a line to
your /etc/profile which reads

ulimit -s 2048

You can read all about it in O'Reilly's Linux in a Nutshell on page 495-496.

I have mine set in as follows: ulimit -S -c 100 and while it really
looks wrong I have not had problems.

Hi Román,

This issue has been discussed many items in the not to distant past - you
might want to check the archives.

Basically, you need to locate the referenced files and amend the
cocoon.properties file to point at the files directly then restart tomcat.

There is also a posting about some fix for this issue, but it is all java
stuff to me.

  Hi all:

I have to install the following system: Apache 1.3.22 + Tomcat 3.3 +
Cocoon 1.8.2. I'm not a java programmer so the app that needs to be
run in this box is a black box for me and I don't necessary have to
know about java classes, etc So I usually mess-up with those java
terms.

Cocoon documentation is not very clear; indeed the install is
described for Tomcat 3.2 version, which is not the same as 3.3 versino
(obviusly).

Summarizing, I'd like know about a good doc/text related to the
installation of exactly the versions of software I'm describing in the
subject. That way I hope I will not have problems on installing them.
I'm a sysadmin, not a java-man :-)

The problem is that some texts I've found are all for Tomcat 3.2 (.1,
usually) installation. Tomcat 3.3 has several differences. For
example, /lib directory is structured in 3 parts (this didn't exist in
3.2.1 version), it has different jars, etc. Install-instructions like
rename paser to zparser are, apart from confusing, invalid now,
since some .jars have changed. :-(

Currently I have installed Tomcat and it's working ok, but when I try
to retrieve a .xsp page I receive something like:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Error loading logicsheet at
resource://org/apache/cocoon/processor/xsp/library/java/cookie.xsl due
to java.lang.Exception: Resource not found or retrieving error..

I'm reading documentation but I have a big mess. A simple but good
text and/or other related refs would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks in advance.

PS: I have other systems installed with different versions (Tomcat
3.2.1) and they're working ok. I used some good recipes
(=texts/docs). But it seems not to work now for 3.3. :-((

2002-01-14 Thread Brian Blakeley

Román - this one of the posting I was refering to:

The changes for Tomcat 3.3 rc1 were something to work out!

I think what I did to get past where it sounds like you are was to locate
the various resource files at the end of cocoon.properties and amended
cocoon.properties to point to the various files ( i.e. util.xsl, etc.).

I found the files in $COCOON_HOME/build/src/

Once I did that ( with cocoon.jar in the
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib with the others) I could get
Cocoon.xml and the samples to operate.

Hope this helps.

Comparing this to my cocoon.properties I would suggest trying
  the following:

remove the file: from each line so that you have
  processor.xsp.logicsheet.context.java = /usr/local/cocoon/src

Also I am sure that you confirmed that your locations where

Hi Jan,

I posted this a while back shortly after I got things going.
Hope it helps.

I think what I did to get past where it sounds like you are
was to locate
the various resource files at the end of
  cocoon.properties and amended
cocoon.properties to point to the various files ( i.e.
util.xsl, etc.).

I found the files in $COCOON_HOME/build/src/

Once I did that ( with cocoon.jar in the
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib with the others)
  I could get
Cocoon.xml and the samples to operate.

Hope this helps.

 Hello all,

 I have installed Tomcat 4.0.1
and Cocoon 1.8.2. I have done it
with the manuals for Tomcat 3.x for
 Cocoon installing.

 But it won't work.

 When I type in http://www.artada.de/Cocoon.xml
then I became the following error:

Publishing Engine could not be initialized.

 java.lang.RuntimeException: Error loading

Subject: util.xsl not found problem

 Hi,

I installed Tomcat 3.2.3 and Cocoon 1.8.2 with the cocoon jars in
the tomcat/lib/common directory. However, when I attempt to access the
Cocoon sample xml pages I get:

 java.lang.RuntimeException: Error loading logicsheet at
 resource://org/apache/cocoon/processor/xsp/library/java/util.xsl due to
java.lang.Exception: Resource not found or retrieving error.
 at
 org.apache.cocoon.processor.xsp.XSPProcessor.init(XSPProcessor.java:302)
 at org.apache.cocoon.framework.Manager.create(Manager.java:109)
 at org.apache.cocoon.framework.Router.init(Router.java:80)
 at org.apache.cocoon.framework.Manager.create(Manager.java:109)
 at org.apache.cocoon.Engine.init(Engine.java:179)
 etc...etc...etc...

If anyone has any idea why this is happening I could really use the
 assistance.

 Thanks,

 Trevor
