using 1.8.2 with Tomcat as Service on w2k

2002-08-12 Thread Michael-K . Hansen

  Hi --

Managed to get Tomcat 3.3.1 running as a service on my w2k server. It is running in
conjunction with IIS 5.0.

Tomcat also has Cocoon 1.8.2. If I kick off Tomcat manually Cocoon works great. If
it runs as a service, I get

Class not found: org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon

  In jvm.stderr

I'm guessing it's a configuration problem - anyone see this before?

Michael,

you need a servlet container, be it Tomcat/WebLogic/iPlanet...

I inferred you used Tomcat because it is the most commonly used.

err... ok, you confused the newbie now - I don't see anything in Cocoo install for
IIS that says I need Tomcat as well

   What did I miss?

 Michael,

yes, Cocoon 2 runs fine with:

 - IIS 5.0
 - Tomcat 4.0.x
 - Isapi filter for Tomcat

BTW, the above sentence is inaccurate, since IIS doesn't even see Cocoon, it
connects only to Tomcat, hence, your question should
be: Tomcat and IIS 5 ?

Hello --

Well, Cocoon install with IIS looks real straight forward, but looks like
install pertains to IIS 4 - anyone has Cocoon
running on IIS 5? (And for the record, no don't want to ;-) )

RE: MSFT answer to Cocoon? (Plaease don't throw stones :)

2002-06-12 Thread Michael-K . Hansen

Thanks Roger - this solution INTRIGUES me... Has anyone done this or knows where to
get info to couple IIS with Tomcat? Are cases/examples on Apache.org somewhere?

Hi folks,

Sorry Michael. You were looking for a solution.

I was being incredibly facetious when I typed .net. It is one of those
reasons I got a minus on my report card(parochial school) for lack of self
control .

There is nothing like Cocoon but Cocoon.

Use IIS with Jakarta Tomcat, and run Cocoon in it as Microsoft's answer to
Cocoon/Xalan/Xerces functionality?

But you still have to do most of things on foot which is already built into Cocoon.
The technology is there (well, most of it), but there is now framework nearly
comparable to Cocoon in the MS/.NET-world (yet).
