Content Editor for agregation & syndication in Cocoon

2001-06-19 Thread jesskung

Dear cocooners

I would like to find out if anyone had built a content editor for the
agregation and syndication of content in Cocoon. Any tips would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Regards,
Jessica

Help... [C2]how to dynamically create new pages without recompiling sitemap?

2001-07-03 Thread jesskung

Dear Cocoon users

We are implementing a publishing system where a content owner is able to add
new web pages.

However from our understanding, we need to recompile the sitemap and also to
restart Tomcat once we add a new page in the C2 system. Please advise if we
understand this wrongly.

If yes, please let us know on how we can implement this feature. We really need
this feature urgently as we need to get the system up in 2 weeks. Please please
help...

Thanks in advanced for all responses.

Jessica

C2- How to implement visitor personalisation feature?

2001-07-03 Thread jesskung

Dear Cocoon users

Has anyone implemented this feature before? It is a feature similar to
excite.com where they allow the visitor to custom turn on or off certain
sections of the web page. Any help is greatly appreciated! Is this feature
possible in C2?

Thanks in advanced.

Help... C2- How to dynamically create new pages without recompiling sitemap?

2001-07-03 Thread jesskung

Dear Cocoon users

We are in the midst of implementing a publishing tool using Cocoon 2. We
understand that in order to add a new web page into the system, we will
need to update the sitemap file and recompile this. We may need to
restart Tomcat as well in order for the system to recognise the new web
page.

Please let me know if the above assumptions are correct. Perhaps we are
using it wrongly.

However, we are building a system to allow the content owners to
dynamically add new web pages. If the above conditions are true, and our
system has about 10 content owners, must we restart Tomcat and recompile
the sitemap each time the owners add new pages?

Please help... We are rushing to implement this system in 2 weeks time
and really need all the help we can.

Your help is very very much appreciated.

Thanks a zillion in advanced!

Regards,
Jessica

Dear Cocoon users

Thank you very much to everyone (Vadim, [EMAIL PROTECTED], Sergio) for
their kindness for responding to me. I will test the system as recommended and
inform you of the outcome. We hope to put up a FAQ for such issues encountered
so that the Cocoon newbies can use.

Your assumptions are not correct; please look into sample sitemap:

This pipeline works for any request of form "xsp/*", and cocoon2 demo
have 6 *.xsp files in docs/samples/xsp/ directory. It is just matter of adding
new xsp file to it in order to add new page. That's it. No restart is required.

This is just an example. You should update it in a way you need.

PS However, it is possible to write such a sitemap so you need to recompile it
every time you add something new. It's just a matter of how you write your sitemap.

Re: New Cocoon Powered Webs

2001-07-10 Thread jesskung

Hi Alfredas

Congratulations on such a remarkable web site! It is so encouraging to find
users of Cocoon in the educational arena and to have the complete
separation of content-programming-design.

We are also in the midst using Cocoon 2 in deploying an educational website
for one of our customers. We are still studying Cocoon 2 for this purpose.
Would it be possible for you to share some of your experiences in deploying
Cocoon? Some of my questions are as follows:-

1. Do you build your user management module or use any open source software
for this purpose? We have about 10 content owner. Specific owner may go to
the detail of having the privilege for one web page only just like yours.
We are contemplating using Turbine.

2. Personalisation for the student
- How do you use Cocoon to do this feature?

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

Please add some more sites to the success story list :)

http://www.sseriga.edu.lv (this one has the links to the other two below)
http://students.sseriga.edu.lv (student "portal" - access to personalised
info: scores, files, news, etc)
http://econ.sseriga.edu.lv (economics "portal" - will be up starting from
sep 1st)

I guess we (Stockholm School of Economics in Riga) will be the first
academic institution on the list and I know that it won't be the last as we
are already planning to use cocoon in several other schools.
These sites have already been running for a half a year on Cocoon1.x.x and
we are planning to switch to C2 this summer. Moreover, we have made a
publishing system (sort of GUI for Cocoon) and every page (the content) you
see on the site is created and maintained by a person from the school's
office. So we actually succeeded in the complete content-programming-design
separation.
The GUI is now a web-based application (JavaScript, DHTML, MS DHTML editing
component on the front-end and Cocoon on the back) and works on IE only,
but
in the nearest future we are planning to re-write it as an applet and make
a
demo public for cocoon users, as this could be a good example/purpose for
using cocoon.

viva cocoon,

Alfredas

C2 & Turbine> sequencing & elements in a hierarchy...

2001-09-06 Thread jesskung

Dear C2 and Turbine users

We are using Cocoon 2 & Turbine to build a content mgmt tool. In the admin
user/content publisher tool, we need to cater for the following hierarchical
structures.

root---folder1---index.xml
 +
 +-folder2---index.xml
 +
 +-folder3---index.xml
 + +
 + +---page1.xml
 + +
 + +---page2.xml
 +
 +-folder4---index.htm
 ...

Currently, we have a system to keep track of the hierarchy, by number them as
1.1, 1.2, 1.1.1, etc. However, when the system begins to have thousand of pages
and folders, it has began to be inefficient.

When the publisher need to insert a new folder in between the folder 2 & 3, how
do we cater for the system? Similarly, when the user wants to insert a new web
page between the page 1 & 2.

The question here is, is there a good method to use to keep the information of
the entire hierarchy and at the same time able to allow insertion of new
elements between, as well as deletion & modification?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards
Jessica
