I've kind of lost track of the threads, but just to clarify:

 - ibiblio doesn't solicit collections.  you go to them, and if your
materials are in scope, they usually say yes.  they also aren't quick
to turn things around, as has been pointed out, because they have a
shoestring staff with huge collections to maintain and many many users
to support.  But, their hearts are in the right place, and they've
delivered on their goals for 15+ years.

 - looks like code4lib.org is restored (some?  all?) to an OSU host -
three cheers for rordway!  That alone is a major argument for OSU
assuming hosting of c4l.org's main web presence for now.  I'd still
like to carry the discussion through a bit further, but, really, big
thanks to rordway et al. :)

WEB AND DIGITAL LIBRARY SPECIALIST

The Center for Research Libraries is a consortium of more than 200 leading
U.S. and Canadian academic and research libraries based adjacent to the
University of Chicago¡¦s Hyde Park campus.

Working under the direction of the Director of Information Systems, the
candidate selected will design, develop and implement Web enabled solutions
for grant and non-grant funded projects and provide technical expertise to
support digital conversion and delivery projects.  In addition to determine
specifications, developing and implementing new or enhanced Web
applications, the position is also responsible for maintaining and updating
existing Web applications and support a robust Web hosting environment.

Digital delivery accountability includes participate in hardware/software
evaluations, testing and implementing scan and post processing strategies,
inspecting the quality of scans from in-house and out-sources productions,
monitoring the performance of digital conversion equipment and contacting
system vendor for problem resolution and upgrades.

Essential Duties:
„X Develops and updates web applications with both static and dynamic
database driven contents.
„X Conducts interface design, integration and customization of Web
applications and products acquired from third party.
„X Ascertains requirements, designs, codes and implements new or enhanced
applications.
„X Develops templates and other tools needed to facilitate staff
contribution of web contents.
„X Assists with site wide contents updates, clean-up and data maintenance.
„X Monitors, modifies and troubleshoots existing Web applications.
„X Assists member institutions in developing best practice and optimize
access to CRL Web resources.
„X Sets-up and maintains problem and activity log.
„X Researches digital conversion hardware/soft ware products and best
practices in the field.
„X Inspect the quality of scans produced internally and externally.
„X Depending on assignments, may be required to coordinate the work of
others.

Experience:
We are seek a creative and talented IT professional with a minimum of two
years post academic experience programming web enabled applications, with
some start to finish project responsibility. Experience must also include
at least one year of relational database development. Prior work experience
with digital conversion and integrated library systems is strongly
preferred.

Skills  Education:
„X Solid skill in web development,  proficient in HTML, CSS, DHML, XML and
Web authoring tools, such as Dreamweaver.
„X Proficient in at least one programming languages used in Web CGI and one
scripting languages, such as ASP, Perl, PhP, ColdFusion, Java script.
„X Knowledge and ability to build complex SQL queries against relational
database.
„X Broad knowledge of  digital conversion activities and associated
standards and technologies
„X Demonstrated capacity of developing documentation and training material
„X Knowledge and experience in UNIX/Linux administration strongly preferred
„X Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent
experience is required.  An MLIS, course work or seminars pertaining to
digitization and Web development are preferred.
