CONTENTdm out of the box has no > capacity to act as an LOD provider. > I've written a simple application, easyLOD, for exposing Linked Data from various sources, and have included a CONTENTdm plugin (there's also a simple plugin to get Dublin Core from a MySQL database and FOAF data from a CSV file). It's at https://github.com/mjordan/easyLOD . To get it to work with CONTENTdm: 1) unzip https://github.com/mjordan/easyLOD/archive/master.zip and put the easyLOD directory in the webroot of a server running PHP 5.3 2) edit data_sources/cdm/cdm.php to use your CONTENTdm server 3) get the alias and pointer of an item in CONTENTdm that has some Dublin Core fields (e.g., in the case of http://content.lib.sfu.ca/cdm/compoundobject/collection/bcp/id/15068, the alias is 'bcp' and the pointer is '15068') 4) the URI for this item in easyLOD is: e.g., http://path/to/easylod/resource/cdm:bcp:15068 5) to see the RDF representation for this item, issue the command curl -L -H 'Accept: application/rdf+xml' http://path/to/easylod/resource/cdm:bcp:15068 (of course using an alias and pointer from one of your own collections) 6) to see the human-readable version of this metadata, point your graphical web browser at the same URL. Re: [CODE4LIB] back to minorities question, seeking guidance
I don't know. Saying "math" is essential to modern day programming/coding is like saying it's essential to auto mechanics. I mean, I guess, but not really. I regularly joke about my inability to add/subtract as "that's what computers are for." While reading code, initial programming statements may resemble Algebra 1 formulas but they quickly devolve into verbose patterns and human styles that feel more in line with my verbal than my quantitative side. Re: [CODE4LIB] human rights violations elibrary for Haiti/France
Jason, I recommend contacting the SAA's (Society of American Archivists) or ICA's (International Council of Archives) Human Rights sections for advice. This is so much more of an archival, policy, and security issue than it is of a relatively simple code / technology solution. These organizations have expertise and can provide recommendations on these topics having previously dealt with archives of human rights abuses and war crime tribunal records. http://www2.archivists.org/groups/human-rights-archives-roundtable http://groups.ica.org/en/node/37 Kari Kari Smith Digital Archivist MIT Libraries -Original Message- From: Code for Libraries [mailto:CODE4LIB@listserv.nd.edu] On Behalf Of Jason Raitz Sent: Monday, February 25, 2013 2:13 PM To: CODE4LIB@listserv.nd.edu Subject: [CODE4LIB] human rights violations elibrary for Haiti/France Hi, I've just been contacted out of the blue by someone working with a joint Haitian/French human rights organization that needs to create a searchable, bilingual elibrary on human rights violations in Haiti. They've secured hosting in America for various reasons and they have a few thousand or more documents to store, index and make available. The lady I talked to had an interest in using facets and storing the documents in a MySQL db. I briefly suggested that Solr and Blacklight might be where they're heading. I also suggested that she might be able to get more help from an I-school like my alma mater, UNC-SILS. If anyone would like to assist her or has some ideas or experience with such things, her email is reneeasteria [at] gmail [dot] com. She didn't tell me much more beyond this. I believe that she doesn't consider herself a programmer (I bet we would consider her a coder :-) ), she's been working with statistical software for a number of years, and that she is able to learn what's necessary. I'm not sure of any protocols, but I went ahead and CC'd Renee on this message. Cheers, Jason Raitz NCSU Libraries

Re: [CODE4LIB] human rights violations elibrary for Haiti/France
I don't know how much power the Duvaliers still hold, but she may want to have her collection deposited/mirrored by a trusted organization. My concern is that the family may twist the host's arm to suddenly end her hosting. It's probably not an issue, but it would be worth it to have the collection held somewhere that won't cave to pressure. Getting hosting in the US is a good idea, but the host may still be prone to being pressured into ending her service, esp. if the cause picks up steam. There are archives that collect this sort of thing, so it would be worthwhile to get in touch. Columbia has a live web archive of human rights material, so they may be a good candidate (if only to put the site on weekly/biweekly crawl - even if her site dies, the documentation will be extant/trusted). --Alex On Mon, Feb 25, 2013 at 10:48 PM, Wilhelmina Randtke wrote: > The type of hosting plan will determine what kind of search they can do. > Wordpress probably isn't the best platform for this, unless you can put a > search layer on top of it.
