Description: We seek a colleague whose research and teaching interests focus
on how records, data, and digital information can be managed, organized,
represented, and preserved in ways that meet critical societal and
organizational needs. Contexts might include government,
industry, advocacy/service organizations, science, social science and
humanities data repositories, and cultural heritage information institutions,
among others.

  
The iSchool at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites creative and
forward thinking individuals to apply for a tenured faculty position to lead
the new College-wide program in the Curation and Management of Digital
Assets. Individuals with demonstrated leadership and
experience in digital curation and/ or archival studies are strongly
encouraged to apply. The candidate selected for this
position will direct an interdisciplinary Digital Curation Laboratory
sponsored by the iSchool. Based on
extensive leadership and professional experience, the candidate, in
collaboration with other University partners, will develop the Laboratory as a
venue for bridging educational theory, technological innovation, and the
resolution of "real world" data and information problems.

The program in the Curation and Management of Digital Assets is designed to
facilitate advanced research in the digital environment and to enhance student
educational experience and professional advancement. Areas
of particular professional experience sought in candidates include:

Uses and Users of Digital Collections

  
The iSchool enrolls over 500 students in four degree programs: Ph.D., a Master
of Library Science (MLS), a Master of Information Management (MIM), and a
Master of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Faculty members across these
programs teach as well as conduct collaborative research that takes advantage
of this interdisciplinary breadth. The iSchool is internationally known for
its vibrant programs in archives, records management, and library and
information studies. Members of the faculty hold joint
appointments in Business, Education, English, the Institute for Advanced
Computer Studies, and the Information Policy and Access Center.

  
This is a 9-month tenure appointment, with opportunities for summer teaching
and grant-funded summer research. Salary and benefits are
competitive based upon qualifications and experience.

  
Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area; demonstrated
research excellence; clear ability to attract external support for research;
and evidence of effective and innovative teaching.
Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the application of principles
and concepts to practice, together with a commitment to bridging research and
practice.

[CODE4LIB] Call for Proposals: ALCTS Scholarly Communications Interest Group at 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting

The ALCTS Scholarly Communications Interest Group invites proposals for
presentations at its meeting at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting in
Philadelphia on Saturday, January 25th from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.

Presentations focusing on new and emerging services in scholarly
communications are preferred.

Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:

* Research data services
* Implementation and integration of disparate tools and services such as
altmetrics, author identifiers, etc.
* Services related to compliance with the White House Office of Science and
Technology Policy (OSTP) memorandum

* Open educational resources

Presentations will be approximately 30 minutes, including Q&A. To submit a
proposal for presentation, please email an abstract to Maureen Walsh (
walsh@osu.edu) and Doug Way (w...@gvsu.edu) by Wednesday, November 6,
2013.

**Librarian for Digital Initiatives and Scholarship**  
  
(1.0 FTE, 12-month, regular, salary grade 8)

  
The Librarian for Digital Initiatives and Scholarship will establish and grow
a dynamic program to support new models of scholarship. S/he will foster the
successful adoption and application of digital approaches to teaching,
learning, and research, will develop sustainable and scalable digital
resources, and will explore emerging and existing technologies which enable
the use of digital content. Will manage a portfolio of digital scholarship,
digital collection and library technology projects, in close collaboration
with faculty, librarians, academic technologists and tri-college partners.

  
Initial goals for the Librarian for Digital Initiatives and Scholarship
include conducting an environmental scan of academic departments, identifying
potential scholarly projects, determining suitable tools and methodologies for
use in each, and establishing priorities based on the content's cultural,
academic or historical value. Will manage the lifecycle of these identified
projects, from the creation of digital objects to long-term preservation.

  
Requirements:

  
 ALA-accredited MLS
or MLIS degree, or MA/PhD with significant experience in digital humanities

 At least 2 years
experience in academic or library services.

 Project management
skills and experience in overseeing technology based projects

 Experience with the
research tools and approaches of and demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends
in digital scholarship

 Demonstrates
initiative in identifying and implementing projects

 Ability to quickly
learn new tools and technologies

 Ability to work
enthusiastically, effectively and collaboratively with diverse faculty,
students and staff

 Ability to work
independently

  
Desired qualifications

  
 Familiar with
academic and scholarly research practices

 Success in matching
technical solutions to project needs

 Working knowledge of
digital asset management systems, content management systems and/or web page
development.

 Working knowledge of
most common library metadata formats

 Knowledge of issues
in the research/knowledge creation lifecycle

 Working knowledge of

I've used http://a.nnotate.com/ for this several times. You can leave comments 
in line with the text, respond to other comments, display/print the comments in 
different ways, and one of my favorite things is that the people you send the

Commentpress and digress.it are two Wordpress variants that offer 
paragraph-by-paragraph threaded commenting. Commentpress is quite old (we used 
it here: http://www.lib.umich.edu/islamic/ in a collaborative cataloging 
project sponsored by CLIR and funded by Mellon).
