Description: We seek a colleague whose research and teaching interests focus on how records, data, and digital information can be managed, organized, represented, and preserved in ways that meet critical societal and organizational needs. Contexts might include government, industry, advocacy/service organizations, science, social science and humanities data repositories, and cultural heritage information institutions, among others. The iSchool at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites creative and forward thinking individuals to apply for a tenured faculty position to lead the new College-wide program in the Curation and Management of Digital Assets. Individuals with demonstrated leadership and experience in digital curation and/ or archival studies are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate selected for this position will direct an interdisciplinary Digital Curation Laboratory sponsored by the iSchool. Based on extensive leadership and professional experience, the candidate, in collaboration with other University partners, will develop the Laboratory as a venue for bridging educational theory, technological innovation, and the resolution of "real world" data and information problems. The ideal candidate for this position will thrive in an environment where research and teaching share the highest priority, where colleagues offer and expect collaboration in all phases of academic life, and where available resources to support teaching and research are fully engaged. The ideal candidate will: Lead and conduct cutting edge, high impact research that shapes the information field; Craft exceptional education experiences for students; Provide leadership in curricular and program development in the College; Exhibit evidence of relevant and effective professional service; and Thrive in an interdisciplinary environment. The program in the Curation and Management of Digital Assets is designed to facilitate advanced research in the digital environment and to enhance student educational experience and professional advancement. Areas of particular professional experience sought in candidates include: Curation and Management of Digital Assets Digital Preservation Archives and Records Management Uses and Users of Digital Collections The iSchool enrolls over 500 students in four degree programs: Ph.D., a Master of Library Science (MLS), a Master of Information Management (MIM), and a Master of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Faculty members across these programs teach as well as conduct collaborative research that takes advantage of this interdisciplinary breadth. The iSchool is internationally known for its vibrant programs in archives, records management, and library and information studies. Members of the faculty hold joint appointments in Business, Education, English, the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, and the Information Policy and Access Center. This is a 9-month tenure appointment, with opportunities for summer teaching and grant-funded summer research. Salary and benefits are competitive based upon qualifications and experience. Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area; demonstrated research excellence; clear ability to attract external support for research; and evidence of effective and innovative teaching. Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the application of principles and concepts to practice, together with a commitment to bridging research and practice. Presentations focusing on new and emerging services in scholarly communications are preferred. Will manage the lifecycle of these identified projects, from the creation of digital objects to long-term preservation.
