There's also CLIR, which oversees DLF[1], albeit as a "program" of CLIR
which is a closer alliance than we would seek. That doesn't mean a looser
alliance wouldn't be possible.

Ok, wasn't sure, yes DuraSpace and Lyrasis sounds like good candidates. I would

Off the top of my head, and in alphabetical order, the obvious (to me) ones in
this space that might be candidates are DuraSpace and Lyrasis.

In time, DP.LA seems like a great possible candidate, though it is US-centric,
I'm unsure of its corporate status (though they do seem to be able to cash and
sign checks), and right now they might view C4L as a distraction more than an
asset or timely alliance. (Others on this list might be in a better position to
comment, ahem...)

We should probably toss out some ideas before approaching anyone. Getting
the right fit would be important. Which 501(c)3's in our space do we think
we may want to approach about being our fiscal agent? Maybe we should
collect a list of suggestions and then (natch) vote on who to approach? We
could then go down the list until we got a "yes".

Re: [CODE4LIB] Call for Old Conf Tshirt Logos

2014-04-10 Thread Roy Tennant
We should probably toss out some ideas before approaching anyone. Getting
the right fit would be important. Which 501(c)3's in our space do we think
we may want to approach about being our fiscal agent? Maybe we should
collect a list of suggestions and then (natch) vote on who to approach? We
could then go down the list until we got a "yes".

It is running though spreadshirt set up with 0% commissions, so no monies are
being collected. I think as long as I don't collect any money, we should be

I hope that the IRS doesn't put a lien on the yacht he buys with the proceeds.

You're right, though. Probably better if some organization or institution could
step up. Again we are slightly challenged by our state of non-organization.

I think one of the things that has held us back about the store in the past
was the lack of a fiscal agent. That is, someone is going to be taking in
money on behalf of Code4Lib (presumably), but where does it go? Since we
have no organization we have no fiscal presence. No bank account, nothing.
So, is Riley going to be our fiscal agent in this regard? Are there tax

[CODE4LIB] osTicket assistance

2014-04-10 Thread Hillel Arnold
Any code4libbers out there who use osTicket and would be willing to give me a
hand making some tweaks?

I'm importing some email and trying to get the system to recognize the date in
the email header rather than creating its own timestamp, but am having some
difficulty mostly because I'm a PHP n00b but also because the osTicket
documentation is not super fantastic.
Any help (or even telling me that's not possible) would be very much
appreciated!

[CODE4LIB] DPLA Hackathon in Austin on April 27, 2014

2014-04-10 Thread Vacek, Rachel E
On Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 1-5 pm, there will be a FREE hackathon on DPLA
prior to the Texas Conference on Digital Libraries (TCDL) taking place in
Austin, TX, on the University of Texas campus.

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is a platform that enables new and
transformative uses of digitized cultural heritage materials, based on a
metadata repository that provides read-only access to millions of records from
across the United States via an open API. In this workshop, participants will
actively code against the DPLA API to build or enhance apps, visualization
tools, plug-ins, and other interesting tools that make use of DPLA data.

For more information and to register for the DPLA Hackathon, go to the Hacking
DPLA website
.

For more information about the Texas Conference on Digital Libraries, go to the
2014 TCDL website .

Thanks,

Another good one might be THATCamp--I went to UConn's last year and got to
learn quite a bit about Omeka. It's being held at BU this year:
http://newengland2014.thatcamp.org/

There isn't a set schedule, but you can follow what people are proposing to
present on and see if any of it appeals to you.

Also, I will second the BootCamp, if only because Storrs is very nice in
the summer. Swing by the dairy bar if you make the trip! But on a more
'professional' note I have heard from co-workers it is both fun and
informative!

Depending on the repositories you work with, you could also try checking
out events focused on those. Duraspace hosts some pretty good webinars
about DSpace and Fedora (older ones are archived online), and there's going
to be a Hydra camp in the northeast this fall (TBD) that might be useful if
you're interested in using Hydra/Fedora. ASERL has also had some good
webinars on open access and scholarly communications.

Hey Matt,

Well. You could go to one conference for $500, pay for maybe two or three
workshops or classes, etc. I personally would subscribe to sites like

Treehouse
Lynda.com
CodeSchool.com *
NetTuts*

and so on. I have had subscriptions to both codeschool and nettuts+ and they,
especially codeschool,--which has really pleasant jingles O_o--were pretty
instrumental in actually developing some skills.

Have fun!

Subject: [CODE4LIB] Professional Development Suggestions?

Hi Code4Libbers,

I wanted to solicit some ideas from the community. I was recently told I have
about 500 bucks in professional development funds I can make use of, but the
deadline to submit things for approval for this budget year is in the front
half of next week. As such I wanted to find out from the group if they knew of
any good webinars, work shops, or small conferences in the northeast that could
be helpful to a librarian who works with repositories and digital collections.
Or if people know of other good ways to make use of professional development
funds. I would like to make good use of these to grow, but I am at a loss as
to where I could apply them with the time I have to look. I appreciate any
thoughts people can provide. Thanks and I hope everyone has a good day.
