Wait, what's a metadatathon?

It's like a hackathon only it's harder to say... and it's for metadata! We'll
be cleaning up metadata, learning tools and scripts to help automate this
process, and hearing from Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) experts
about how metadata affects end users and their ability to do cool things with
collection materials.

Who can attend?

Anyone interested in contributing materials to the DPLA (or in good metadata
practices more generally). We're especially hoping to see archivists and
special collections librarians, metadata librarians, and developers. But we
welcome any and all party crashers committed to shaping a better information
ecosystem.

When & Where

Saturday, July 19th from 9 am to 5 pm

UO PDX, White Stag, 70 NW Couch St, Portland, OR 97209

[CODE4LIB] Version 4, Research Data Curation Bibliography

2014-06-23 Thread Charles Bailey
Digital Scholarship has released Version 4 of the Research Data Curation
Bibliography. This selective bibliography includes over 320
English-language articles and technical reports that are useful in
understanding the curation of digital research data in academic and other
research institutions.

http://digital-scholarship.org/rdcb/rdcb.htm

Most sources have been published from January 2009 through June 2014;
however, a limited number of earlier key sources are also included.

The bibliography includes links to freely available versions of included
works. If such versions are unavailable, links to the publishers'
descriptions are provided.

It is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0
United States License.

For broader coverage of the digital curation literature, see the author's
Digital Curation Bibliography: Preservation and Stewardship of Scholarly
Works, which presents over 650 English-language articles, books, and
technical reports, and the Digital Curation Bibliography: Preservation and
Stewardship of Scholarly Works, 2012 Supplement, which presents over 130
additional sources.

[CODE4LIB] Handbook "Linked data for Libraries, Archives and Museums"

2014-06-23 Thread Seth van Hooland
Hi,

Some of you might be interested in the handbook "Linked Data for Libraries,
Archives and Museums. How to clean, link and publish your metadata" which was
published with Facet/ALA-Neal Schuman last week. This handbook has been written
specifically for people with an LIS/DH background. You will find a short
promotional video on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnM3tHWAsSA and the first
chapter can be downloaded from http://book.freeyourmetadata.org/.

If you're interested in getting a review copy from the publisher, let me know.

Kind regards,
