[CODE4LIB] Auto filling ILLiad forms without WC Discovery
Hey Code4libers, So our statewide purchase of OCLC's WorldCat Discovery ended this spring and now with the new school year, all the ramifications of this to Interlibrary loan and training the new crop of patrons is now becoming clear. We haven't seen it happen yet, but besides losing our union catalog link (http://wncln.worldcat.org/), the understanding is that if all libraries that don't subscribe will not have their holdings show up in the public display of worldcat.org. (WorldShare ILL will see it, but public patrons will not.) I'm surprised...Is OCLC really going to hide the holdings of those libraries that don't subscribe to OCLC Discovery? Seems kind of odd that a database we all worked together to create would do that...but that is what I understand... Is that yours too? The biggest issues we are hearing from our Reference and ILL staff is the lost the ability to auto fill a request when searching/linking search to worldcat.org. I'm wondering if others in the Code4lib world might have a fix for this issue of auto filling the information about an item scraped from public worldcat.org site into an ILLiad request form? Do you have other solutions? Jill Ellern
Re: [CODE4LIB] Illiad Login Url Setting In Alma or Primo BO
Gavin, We have Alma and Primo both (along with ILLiad). Can you show me a screen shot of where you see the ILLiad link? There may be more than one place to change settings. Feel free to email me off-list if you prefer. Re: [CODE4LIB] Illiad Login Url Setting In Alma or Primo BO
Gavin et al, This sounds like it should be an OpenURL configuration issue? Primo/Alma uses OpenURL, which takes away the need for a log in. [CODE4LIB] Local digitization and ingest into HathiTrust
Hi, My library no longer has an Internet Archive Scribe in-house, and we are looking at how to support more local digitization, submitting those digitized items directly into HathiTrust. If your library is submitting locally digitized content to HathiTrust, we'd be interested in hearing what you've come up with for supporting that workflow and its technical requirements. We've been discussing building a small application to support the following functions: - adding items to a to digitize queue --- including some data required by Hathi, to be identified and input by preservation staff: title, bibliographic record number, item barcode, enumeration/chronology/volume of item - digitization staff marking which items are ready for submission (digitized and passed quality control) - addition of successfully digitized items to a batch - compilation of the MARC-XML required by HathiTrust for a batch - building the zip files of digital content (with required technical metadata) for submission to HathiTrust - marking a batch off as successfully submitted to and accepted by HathiTrust, which would remove related data from the application But we don't want to reinvent any wheels. Thanks for any info on how you've successfully supported this work. Best, -=- Kristina M. [CODE4LIB] Developer(s) Wanted: Build The Wikipedia Library's Digital Library Card Platform
Call for Developers We are planning to create a Digital Library Card Platform for The Wikipedia Library. We are looking for a developer, or team, with a history of successfully developing web applications in open development frameworks (such as Drupal, Angular, Ember, CiviCRM, etc.). Efficient production, clear communication, and well-structured and secure code are a must. Additional consideration will go towards applicants who have worked in the Library and Information Science field, on Open Source projects, or in the Wikimedia/Mediawiki communities. Our budget currently allows for $5000-$15,000 for development of a working version within 4- 6 months. We expect to expand the platform in two later phases to add additional functionality around standard library services. The Wikipedia Library helps Wikipedia's top editors receive access to donations from leading publishers and databases. Now that we have over 3 dozen publishing partners including Elsevier JSTOR, Oxford University Press, and SAGE, AND nearly a dozen global branches with 2 dozen more planned for the next year AND commitments to support other TWL programs across the globe... we need to create a system that will facilitate our expansion. In the past, manual and separate processes for delivering access were appropriate, but this year's focus is on scaling and growth. Developing the Digital Library Card Platform tool is a top priority for us this year. Qualified and interested applicants should read this project overview and fill out the form linked on this page: *https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S_Da5E4mKcpVASNCtZyVnzkdXcVUPKD49bAwqxfHoIY/edit?usp=sharing https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S_Da5E4mKcpVASNCtZyVnzkdXcVUPKD49bAwqxfHoIY/edit?usp=sharing* Please feel free to share this email with friends or colleagues who may also be interested.
