[CODE4LIB] ACRL 2017 Conference - Call for Panel Session Proposals

2016-02-02 Thread McDonald, Robert H.
Please excuse any cross-postings

As a member of the ACRL 2017 Panel Sessions Committee, I strongly encourage you
to submit a proposal (or more than one!) for a panel discussion at the ACRL
2017 Panel Sessions ( http://conference.acrl.org/ ) in Baltimore in March 2017.

A panel session offers an opportune occasion for two to four presenters to
engage in a cohesive and productive conversation about a topic of importance to
academic libraries and librarianship. Lasting 60 minutes (including time for
Q&A), the discussion proves effective in prompting the audience to think about
the topic and/or share insights from different perspectives.

Conference tags (
http://conference.acrl.org/conference-content/conference-tags/ ) are available
to stimulate your thinking and position your proposal within the conference
theme. Proposals for topics in traditionally underrepresented areas such as
community college libraries, technology or systems librarian services, access
services, and technical services are especially welcome!

Information about submitting a proposal is online at:
(http://conference.acrl.org/conference-content/how-to-submit). When you are
ready for the submission, go to
https://s4.goeshow.com/acrl/national/2017/abstract_submission.cfm to start the
process.

The submission deadline is May 6, 2016.

Feel free to contact me or the Panel Sessions Committee Chairs Adrian Ho
(hoadri...@gmail.com) and Heidi Steiner Burkhardt (heid...@umich.edu) if you
have any questions.

Best,

Robert

[CODE4LIB] Inquiry about Omeka developers

2016-02-02 Thread Patrick Murray-John
In the past few years, we have been delighted to see more and more
developers of both themes and plugins contacting us on our href="https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/omeka-dev";>developer
list and on the http://omeka.org/forums/";>forums. That
has made us curious about who all of you are, and what can we do better
to help you.

With that in mind, we've put together a short survey to get to know you
better. It'll take about ten minutes. We're asking about where you are,
what kinds of places you work for, and what kinds of Omeka development
you do.

We'll use this information to guide our documentation and outreach
efforts. Personal information, of course, will not be exposed or sent to
others.

We'd like to hear about any level of Omeka development, from building a
plugin to hacking a couple lines of a theme. All those activities are
important to us, and knowing about the people and projects that spur the
activity will help tremendously. Please fill out and share href="http://goo.gl/forms/of19fFALqJ";>the survey if you have written
or hacked Omeka code.

We'll start compiling and analyzing the data on February 19, so
responses before then are much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Patrick Murray-John
Director of Omeka Developer Outreach

Re: [CODE4LIB] VIAF https certs

2016-02-02 Thread Stuart A. Yeates
There are a relatively small number of infrastructure domains to which a
huge number of our users are exposed:

doi.org
handle.net
...

In my view pretty much anything which can be used as a lever to get them to
become more secure has to be a good idea, since these are websites which we
have basically no choice about exposing our users to.

[CODE4LIB] Code4lib 2016 Conference Program

2016-02-02 Thread David Lacy
Greetings,

The code4lib program committee has completed the final schedule for this year's
national conference, and the web committee has published it to the conference's
web site.

http://2016.code4lib.org/schedule

The last few months involved endless discussion on ways to change the structure
of the event to accommodate more content, and more discussion. The result of
which has produced two significant changes to the program.

The first sees the creation of 15 minute talks, that in turn make room for 10
minute talks that would have typically not been part of the program. This new
structure adds 8 additional talks to program, which is an increase the
committee is very pleased with. The second change includes a panel
incorporating 4 talks, followed by a 15 minute discussion.

We look forward to seeing everyone next month!

Sincerely,

The 2016 code4lib Program and Web Committees

In order to keep with great tradition of *something* going wrong during a

our website at the exact moment we announced the opening of Pre-Conference
Only registration.

We are currently working to restore the list of Pre-conference workshops to
