The department of Collection Information & Access at the J. Paul Getty
Museum is seeking an Information Architect to oversee the back-end
structure, data models, systems and applications used by the Museum to
support the management and dissemination of documentation, digital
assets, and metadata on the collection and to ensure its accessibility
in the networked environment.  The Information Architect will lead
efforts in restructuring the way information is stored, systems
integrated, and data published so as best to ensure efficiency in
processes, scalability and sustainability, and resource discovery.  This
will involve architectural designs, analysis, integration, and strategic
direction for how best to manage existing enterprise-wide applications
such as collections management, content management and digital asset
management systems with other custom grown applications and open source
solutions, in addition to overseeing data modeling and strategies that
are system independent.   The position will be responsible for the
maintenance of data models, data dictionaries, and processes; work with
technical staff across the Getty to build mechanisms for exchanging data
and metadata between repositories; and work closely with user
communities for requirements analysis, problem definition and solutions
development.

The ideal candidate will utilize standards, best practices, and
forward-thinking solutions for structuring the Museum’s information
architecture, and be able to provide analysis, documentation, and ROI
for strategies. The candidate should have experience in all phases of
the software development cycle; understand and be technically proficient
in the environments in which software applications operate (i.e. Unix,
Windows); have familiarity with semantic technologies including triple
stores, natural language processing, and clustering techniques. The
candidate should be comfortable with writing technical documentation and
design documents, outlining detailed process flow and workflow mappings,
have strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication
skills, and the ability to effectively work in a team environment.

Requirements: Proven experience working with relational databases
(Oracle 10g), SQL Server and using Structured Query Language;
familiarity with “C++”, JAVA or similar object-oriented programming
language; and proficient at UNIX scripting languages; JavaScript, HTML,
CSS, XML and XSLT. Working knowledge of ontologies and ontology
standards like RDF and concepts associated with the Semantic Web. 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Library &
Information Science, Information Technology, or related studies
required, Master’s preferred. Minimum 8 years of experience in the
electronic management of information, and developing, implementing and
managing information architecture in a publishing, library, or
educational repository environment strongly preferred.

Applications Systems Analyst - Senior Specialist

Working under the supervision of the Head of Information Systems, will 
lead software development efforts to build and interconnect open source, 
commercial, and locally developed software systems that drive digital 
projects in the Research Institute.  Work will center around repository 
development, ingest services, web services and middleware, user interface 
design and implementation, digital archiving and preservation, and metasearch 
issues. Position will lead a small focused team of programmers in all 
phases of digital library project development, implementation, and support.

Works with internal Getty staff, external open source community, and vendor 
support staff in a team based approach. Leads in the design and implementation 
efforts on database and user interface work for digital library projects; 
participates in committees and working groups to analyze and determine manual 
and automated workflow practices and procedures; and writes programs in Java, 
Perl, XSL, PHP, and other languages in support of digital library project 
implementation efforts. 

Position requires a service oriented individual with the ability to work 
both independently under minimal supervision and as a member of a larger team. 
Excellent management and mentoring skills are required. Excellent customer 
relation skills, as well as the ability to accurately diagnose problems and 
convey/communicate information to staff and external sources are required.

Technical requirements include: Programming expertise in a variety of 
languages, e.g., Java, C#, C++, Perl, XML/XSL, PHP, etc., and unix shell 
languages; experience with relational, XML, and/or text based database systems; 
experience with implementing open source programs and tools; experience using 
unix (or linux) from the shell prompt; experience with HTML, web user interface 
design and web development tools; SQL knowledge; MS-Windows knowledge; 
excellent 
oral and written communication skills.

Desirable qualities include: MLS/MLIS/MIS degree or equivalent; familiarity 
with library automated systems and library workflows and practices; experience 
with multi-lingual content and database support of Unicode and/or UTF-8; 
knowledge of additional western European language(s); ability and interest 
in obtaining additional technical skills.

The Library Systems Analyst will implement and maintain library
technologies for Lane Medical Library to support the School of
Medicine’s research, education and patient care missions. The ideal
candidate will support data migration and reporting activities, and play
an active role in the development and deployment of new services and
technologies. The Library Systems Analyst will report to the Associate
Director for Knowledge Integration and work cross-functionally across
the library and with IRT Systems Development and Data Center staff to
insure accurate and timely data and seamless digital library services.

Responsibilities
* Deploy and support integrative systems components for the Voyager ILS
(catalog, circulation, patron, and acquisitions modules), SFX link
resolver, ILLiad (document delivery), EZproxy, and similar library systems.
* Create and maintain data interfaces to extract, reformat, and import
data between local and external applications, e.g., patron data, usage
statistics, bibliographic data, acquisitions data, authority and
vocabulary control data using relevant data migration tools including
XSLT and Java.
* Design methods and create programs to analyze print and digital
collections for decision making. Produce statistical reports using data
from library systems, scanned barcode logs and other data as
appropriate. Extract and import statistical data between systems to
create reports.
* Contribute to collaborative web development projects, implementing
designs by creating prototypes using JavaScript, XML XSLT, CSS and XHTML.

Qualifications
* Bachelors Degree in Information Technology with relevant experience in
the information industry or libraries.
* MS in Library and Information Science with relevant experience in
programming and data manipulation highly desired.
* Minimum of three years related experience required.
* Extensive knowledge of techniques & tools to integrate and manipulate
library tools used for catalog, link resolution, patron data,
circulation, document services, remote access authentication, learning
content management, extraction from and manipulation of data between and
among systems.
* Understanding of or experience with an Integrated Library System,
preferably Voyager, SFX or another link resolver program, ILLiad or
other user request programs.
* Integrative programming experience with UNIX file editing (vi, sed,
awk), Perl, CGI scripting, XML, XSLT, and data registries.
* Web development experience with HTTP, XHTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
Apache Cocoon experience desired.
* Understanding of relational database management systems (Oracle,
MySQL, MS SQL) and extraction/manipulation of relational data using
SQLand Java technologies. Understanding of the MARC record structure and
its programmatic manipulation using technologies like MARC/Perl or
MARC4J strongly preferred.
* Experience in working with a wide variety of metadata and usage
tracking formats to analyze various data streams. Experience with
statistical data manipulation desired.
* Experience in translating user specifications and implementing
effective solutions and ability to follow timelines and complete
multiple projects for more than one project manager.
* Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and
personal initiative.
* Ability to work with cross-discipline library and knowledge management
teams to achieve common goals.
* Highly responsive and able to act independently in support of library
systems.
* Knowledge of trends in library automation systems is desired.
* Experience in biomedical libraries is a plus.

The State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo seeks an Executive
Director to lead the Information Delivery Services (IDS) Project,
http://idsproject.org   a dynamic, expanding,
nationally-recognized resource sharing cooperative of 72+ academic and
research libraries throughout New York State (list of current members
 ).
The IDS Project is a special statewide program implemented and administered
since 2004 within Milne Library at SUNY Geneseo. IDS Project members
incorporate a strong identity as a unified community of trust and support
that shares a combined collection of over 40 million volumes and hundreds of
thousands of articles. A major goal of the Project is to continually develop
and objectively evaluate innovative resource-sharing strategies, policies
and procedures that will optimize mutual access to the information resources
of all Project libraries. Member libraries agree to commit to a common set
of performance benchmarks and do not charge each other for ILL transactions.
The open source software and organizational strategies developed by the IDS
Project are being adopted by several other regional library consortia. The
IDS Project Executive Director reports to the SUNY Geneseo Milne Library
Director. 

Specific Responsibilities: 

1.  Provide strong programmatic and administrative leadership in guiding
the future of resource sharing among New York State libraries 

2.  Provide overall organizational management of the IDS Project's
operation and services 

3.  Monitor Project budgets and expenditures, and develop additional
funding streams to support IDS Project, including sponsorship, grant
proposals, cost-recovery models & vendor exhibit/sponsorship fees 

4.  Guide development and provide overall supervision of a variety of
