Thanks Michael! Be glad to submit a patch if you can give me some guidance. I
took a look at https://github.com/apache/cassandra/tree/trunk/debian but didn't
see any references to the currently supported arches, so it seemed to me this
wasn't where the deb package was built. I got the impression this was being
done with some non-public CI/CD pipelines.

specify the architecture as 'all', but according to
[https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-architecture]

documentation correctly that flag shouldn't be necessary, we probably need

No patch currently. Would be helpful to update the doc for now.
So far nobody has been familiar with the package build process, so there's been
no real effort to change it.

I am curious how {{[arch=amd64]}} doesn't break it for any debian distribution
and architecture, like {{i386}}. But debian package management foo is weak here.

Well, actually, i386 is the other option we publish:
https://dl.bintray.com/apache/cassandra/dists/40x/main/
If you dig into either of those or our packaging though, the architecture is
'all' so this is not an issue of packaging, but whatever is managing our Debian
repository is only publishing the package list for amd64 and i386
architectures. Anyway, we should fix this to include arm64, rather than
specifying an architecture in our docs, since while that will work, it is
horrible system hygiene.
Mick, is your foo any stronger with what is building the repo? :)

Hi, Do you have any arm CI servers? because, when I run 'ant ; ant test' on arm
server, there are some test cases failed.
I am trying to find the root cause and solve it.
But I think, CI running on arm server is the final solution, this can prove
cassandra always can run arm server well.
If community don't have arm servers, we can donate some.
And if you need me to do any contribution , please also let me know.

[~mck], no issues installing the deb package from the tarball on m5/amd64 or
m6g/arm64 AWS instances running Ubuntu 20.04.
Haven't had a chance to try running cassandra-stress or similar, but it starts
up just fine.
One hiccup I ran into was forgetting to run `apt update`, otherwise it couldn't
find Python 2 packages to install. Would be nice to remove that dependency :)
