[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-400) "Utilities API" module code name ends with "ui"

2018-02-15 Thread Austin Stephens (JIRA)
Austin Stephens created NETBEANS-400:

Summary: "Utilities API" module code name ends with "ui"
 Key: NETBEANS-400
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-400
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: platform - Other
Reporter: Austin Stephens

Implying that it is used for UI. This is more confusing given there is a module
called "UI Utilities API" with the code name of "org.openide.awt"

[jira] [Updated] (NETBEANS-399) Compile on Save support for arbitrary maven projects

2018-02-15 Thread ratcash (JIRA)

 [

ratcash updated NETBEANS-399:

Description:
Dear developers,

please consider adding support for arbitrary maven projects to utilize the
"compile on save"  and deploy on save feature of Netbeans.

To give a real-life example:

I am evaluating the Kotlin-Netbeans plugin from JetBrains
([https://github.com/JetBrains/kotlin-netbeans)] to develop a maven based
Kotlin project for Java EE in Netbeans. The maven setup is according to the
official guide here: [https://kotlinlang.org/docs/reference/using-maven.html]

The Compile on Save feature is a huge time safer, works flawlessly for the
rather standard Maven/Java/EE projects and I can't imagine development without
it.

While the FAQ for [http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqCompileOnSave] states that for
maven projects it actually executes the corresponding maven goals (phases?), it
does not really seem like the kotlin-maven-plugin was called - no new class
files appear in target/classes.

An improvement suggestion was already filed for the plugin developers
([https://github.com/JetBrains/kotlin-netbeans/issues/126)] even though that
plugin is not maintained these days. Also I wanted to double check via this
very ticket, whether adding support for this is actually the plugin's
responsibility of netbeans'.

I have already wrote to the users mailing list and Emilian B. referred me to
Jira here.

Attached see a sample project I used to test the capability.

Joining the sparseness and advanced capabilities of Kotlin with the fast reload
times achievable with "Compile On Save" and "Deploy on Save" would be a killer
combination. This would be something that would not be possible (AFAIK) with
any other IDE today.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-398) Please add closing dialog when trying to close NetBeans

2018-02-15 Thread Christian Lenz (JIRA)
Christian Lenz created NETBEANS-398:
---

Summary: Please add closing dialog when trying to close NetBeans
 Key: NETBEANS-398
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-398
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: New Feature
Components: ide - UI, platform - Window System
Affects Versions: Next
Reporter: Christian Lenz

It happens sometimes or more or less often, that you accidentally clicked the
closing button in NetBeans. Unfortunately, there is no dialog which prevents
you from them. So it would be good, if we can have a dialog with text like:

Are you sure that you want to close NetBeans?

[] don't ask again

ok --- cancel

So this would be nice to have. For users like me, where this happens randomly
and where I have to wait minutes to work with NetBeans again, it is a must have.

Cheers

Chris

In Visual Studio (Attachment: Visual Studio endtag completion) you can see

For my perspective, many people will write the start tag and the end tag after

It would be great to have postfix completion in the C/C++ editor. If you write
foo.if->tab it should expand to:

{code:c}
if(foo) {

}
{code}

See this link for more information about such feature:

IMHO at first it should be supported in an infrastructure (CSL, which covers
html, javascript, php, csl etc) or in the editor itself (java, c++ and other
languages that are not implementing CSL). Then the languages should implement
the prepared api/spi.

As you can see in WebStorm it is possible to write "test".log->tab will expand
to console.log("test"); It is called postfix completion.

It is really handy to have it in netbeans too.

}
{code}

This feature should be specified for each language that NetBeans supports,
because it is needed for most of such languages, but I will create sub tasks
for them too.

Cheers

Chris

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-387) Please add a smoothly moving of editor tabs

2018-02-15 Thread Christian Lenz (JIRA)
Christian Lenz created NETBEANS-387:
---

Summary: Please add a smoothly moving of editor tabs
 Key: NETBEANS-387
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-387
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Improvement
  Components: platform - Window System
Affects Versions: Next
Reporter: Christian Lenz
 Attachments: tabsMovingChrome.gif, tabsMovingNetbeans.gif,
tabsMovingWebstorm.gif

In my screen captures for webstorm and chrome, you can see that the moving of
open tabs is more smoothly, you have a bit higher threshold that you can move
the mouse a bit above or below the tabs so the IDE or the browser will not
undock the tab until the threshold was arrived. In Netbeans it is not that
smoothly, you can undock it as quick as possible and it is sometimes a pain in
the ass to move the tab on a horizontal line exactly. Chrome and Webstorm is
more intuitive, you don't have to be scared, that accidentely undock the editor
window or move to an other pane.

If you do a "Shift Window Tab Right/Left" it looks nicer I think, so you can do
it with the shortcut but sometimes you would like to do it with the mouse.

It is also smooth in VS Code, so it is a bit of a performance problem because
of the repainting I think. I use multi row tabs and it lacks a bit more than
only with single tabs.

Regards

Chris

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-386) Please add functionality to "Start new line before current"

2018-02-15 Thread Christian Lenz (JIRA)
Christian Lenz created NETBEANS-386:
---

Summary: Please add functionality to "Start new line before
current"
 Key: NETBEANS-386
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-386
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: New Feature
Components: editor - Other, editor - Settings
Affects Versions: Next
Reporter: Christian Lenz

In NetBeans it is possible to Start a new line with a hotkey, doesn't matter
where your cursor is. For me, it is shift + `enter`. So it should be possible
to start a new line before the current. Atm it will only start a new line after
your current line, now I want the same for before the current line.

This feature is very handy and implemented in IntelliJ.

Cheers

Chris

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-385) Hotkey for "Show method parameters" doesn't work for JS

2018-02-15 Thread Christian Lenz (JIRA)
Christian Lenz created NETBEANS-385:

Summary: Hotkey for "Show method parameters" doesn't work for JS
 Key: NETBEANS-385

 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: javascript - Editor
Affects Versions: 8.2
Reporter: Christian Lenz

It could be, that it is not implemented, but when I try to hit the hotkey to
`show method params` in a js file, nothing happens. Everything is working fine
in Java and PHP.

Cheers

Chris
