This shall be not a Blocker. JavaFX applications and projects works, though
Java 11 does not ship JavaFX, telling the truth the message is a bit misleading
upon that I could not figure it out how could I solve the JavaFX vs Java 11
issue, though it works fine if I select a platform with Java 8.

The Java Frontend Application is something with JavaScript and HTML. So I guess
it's Jaroslav's BacktoBrrowser thing. It is confirmed I have HTML5 feature
active and this new project wizard cannot get trough.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-1970) Gradle projects are not loading on Java 11

2019-01-22 Thread Laszlo Kishalmi (JIRA)
Laszlo Kishalmi created NETBEANS-1970:
-

 Summary: Gradle projects are not loading on Java 11
 Key: NETBEANS-1970
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-1970
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Improvement
Affects Versions: 11.0
Reporter: Laszlo Kishalmi
Assignee: Laszlo Kishalmi

Gradle before 4.10 was not able to run on Java 11.

Right now the default behavior is to work with the project provided wrapper if
that is available.

So in case NetBeans is running on Java 11, but the Gradle Wrapper uses Gradle
before 4.10 then the project cannot be loaded in NetBeans.

Right now there are two workarounds: Use NetBeans with some older Java or
disable the "Prefer to use Gradle Wrapper that Comes with the Project" Setting
in Tools > Options > Java > Gradle tab

The preferred way of handling this situation is when the Gradle Project Wrapper
is not compatible with the JDK, then use the Gradle tooling that comes with the
IDE.

The IDE might display a notification on this when encounters with this problem.

Easy. We can use the metadata of the document to tag which tutorials are
reviewed.

We can create a, say, "reviewed" tag, and set it to true, like so:

{{= Using Own Custom Annotation Processors in the IDE}}
{{*:reviewed: true*}}
{{ :jbake-type: tutorial}}
{{ :jbake-tags: tutorials }}
{{ :jbake-status: published}}
{{ :syntax: true}}
{{ :source-highlighter: pygments}}
{{ :toc: left}}
{{ :toc-title:}}

Then we can check for the value of this tag in tutorials.gsp (that would be
${content.reviewed}) and add some custom text explaining what the status of the
tutorial is.

Which texts would you like to include?

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1867) [TUTORIALS] - review and publication

2019-01-22 Thread Antonio Vieiro (JIRA)

Antonio Vieiro commented on NETBEANS-1867:

Easy. We can use the metadata of the document to tag which tutorials are
reviewed.

We can create a, say, "reviewed" tag, and set it to true, like so:{{}}

{{ = Using Own Custom Annotation Processors in the IDE}}
{{ *:reviewed: true*}}
{{ :jbake-type: tutorial}}
{{ :jbake-tags: tutorials }}
{{ :jbake-status: published}}
{{ :syntax: true}}
{{ :source-highlighter: pygments}}
{{ :toc: left}}
{{ :toc-title:}}

Then we can check for the value of this tag in tutorials.gsp (that would be
${content.reviewed}) and add some custom text explaining what the status of the
tutorial is.

Which texts would you like to include?

This is not in the specs but it is supported by a lot of browsers

NB should care not only about standards but also what is used. And this value
is supported by few libraries I had touch with in a webdevelopment. Ignoring
those things will put NB another step behind commercial products like JetBrains.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1537) File - Open... "Windows cannot find the target"

2019-01-22 Thread D Burbridge (JIRA)

[
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-1537?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16748748#comment-16748748

D Burbridge commented on NETBEANS-1537:
---

Yes, that would be a (very) temporary workaround, but not great, since they're
all shortcuts that get added back automatically on reboot by a process over
which I have absolutely no control (the AppSense utility).

Furthermore, even after deleting the broken shortcuts, I still continue to get
the "netbeans64.exe Windows cannot find the target. [OK]" message box.

So I suspect the issue is indeed linked to the pull you mentioned, but I think
there is more to it than just that. It's difficult to know without trying just
that change on its own - and I don't have the time or capability to build
netbeans at the moment myself to see:-) (I can certainly verify that the CPU
frequently gets absolutely hammered.)

I suspect that what's happening is that I've also got other locations listed on
my path to which admin rights are required for access (e.g.
C:\Users\\Application Data). Perhaps the "cannot find the target"
message is related to those? So maybe the fix needs to add in a check against
inability to access a given location?

(I still can't really understand why every location on my path is being scanned
anyway - only the current (last used) folder needs to be shown!)

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1867) [TUTORIALS] - review and publication

Geertjan Wielenga commented on NETBEANS-1867:

I think it would be really helpful to have two states for a tutorial: "ready to
be used" and "under review", with an icon for each, that we could put on each
tutorial as an indicator and to set expectations. Could you create such an
enhancement, assuming you agree with it?

It would not be release-specific, i.e., it would not be "tested for Apache
NetBeans 10" or something, it would be a general comment of go/no go per
tutorial.

This is not in the specs but it is supported by a lot of browsers

NB should care not only about standards but also what is used. And this value
is supported by already few libraries I had touch with in a webdevelopment.
Ignoring those things will put NB another step behind commercial products like
JetBrains.

It's on Windows 7 Enterprise (the only OS I have available to check), version
6.1 build 7601 SP 1

I've found it on Netbeans 8.2, Netbeans 9 and Netbeans 10.

(I had never noticed it in 8.2 before, but I've just tried it and got the error
- maybe I just never had broken shortcuts on the path before?)

-Using Profiling Points in
NetBeans IDE
+

 NetBeans IDE includes a powerful profiling tool that can provide important
information about the runtime behavior of your application. The NetBeans
profiling tool easily enables you to monitor thread states, CPU performance and
the memory usage of your application from within the IDE, and imposes
relatively low overhead.

 This section is a general guide on how to set profiling points in a project
and how to view and modify existing profiling points. There are different types
of profiling points, and you choose the profiling point according to the use
case. A project might have a number of different profiling points associated
with it. You can add, delete, enable and disable profiling points according to
the measurements that you want to obtain during that profiling session.

 The easiest way to set a profiling point is in the source code in the
editor window. You can simply choose the line in the code where you want to set
the profiling point and then open the New Profiling Point window. You can also
set profiling points when you are configuring the options for the profiling
session.

D Burbridge commented on NETBEANS-1537:
---

Geertja, the problem for those of us with the issue is that it happens *every*
time, therefore it's 100% reproduceable on our systems:-)

Anyway, here's something to try, which seems to create another instance of the
error message:

(1) Create an dummy file somewhere on your system, e.g. c:\temp\test.txt

(2) Create a shortcut to the file on your desktop(*). This will now have
"Target:" set to "c:\temp\test.txt", and "Start in:" set to "c:\temp"

(3) Delete the dummy file

(4) In Netbeans, go to "File" | "Open Project..."

Expected Result:

The project selection dialog should be shown.

Actual Result:

A "Problem with Shortcut" error message is shown, followed by another one
"netbeans64.exe Windows cannot find the target."

(*)This at least produces the problem. It seems that if the broken shortcut is
anywhere on the search path it will produce the error dialog. I have also tried
putting the broken shortcut in "My Documents" (produces error message), and in
a non-specific folder (doesn't produce error message).

So it would seem that the Netbeans file chooser dialog is searching the path
and reporting an error for all broken shortcuts. A useful function, admittedly,
if you need to know, but not actually what I want to use Netbeans for!

We are talking about a fix for the warning? For what? I only mean removing the
warning or change the wording of the warning. Nothing more. Not quick fix.
Don't know what a quickfix will look like here. I will have a look into
webstorm to check what happens there, but In my case, it is usable nowadays.
You can still use it and it is wide spreaded in the common web today. I mean
CSS grid is not standard too but when we will implement CSS 4 (Hopefully) we
will not show any warnings.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1454) Editor marks word-break: break-word CSS rule as warning

Probably one to take to the mailing list for guidance?

A  new hint/warning for non-standard properties would seem inherently sensible
to me - sadly, this intrusive of a change is probably beyond my current
comfort/competence levels with NB source.

The waters get muddied further as whilst break-word is not in the W3C spec, the
W3C online validator will accept it as valid CSS

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1454) Editor marks word-break: break-word CSS rule as warning

Chrome already support it. Unsupported and non standard, should be a
difference. I mean with NetBeans it is possible to use ES6 and ES7 so there
should only be a warning that you should be careful of using it, not showing
unsupported. I mean, we can compare with WebStorm in this case.
