> I have a multi-project gradle build with a settings.gradle implementation
> that auto-detects the subprojects.  So whenever a subproject gets
> added/removed/renamed (either directly, or as the result of a git branch
> checkout), the root project build.gradle and settings.gradle do not need to
> be modified at all.
> Currently, the gradle support assumes that projects only need to be reloaded
> when build.gradle or settings.gradle change, but my build breaks this
> assumption.
> So the behavior in my case is that I am not even able to manually browse to a
> new subproject and open it, until after I make a meaningless edit to
> build.gradle or settings.gradle.  The new subproject folder is not even
> recognized as a gradle project in the "open project" dialog until I have
> touched one of those files.
> This behavior is broken.  Ideally, projects that come and go would
> automatically get noticed, and the IDE would update immediately.  But
> assuming that's non-trivial to implement, it would be acceptable to simply
> add a manually-triggerable "force project reload" action somewhere in the
> GUI, so that the user can get back into a good state without the need to
> touch any files.
>
> Thanks!

> One thing that struck me while attending Ed Burns' JSF talk[1] about JSF 2.3
> at JavaOne 2017 was a comment he made that autocompletion isn't working in
> Netbeans for JSF 2.3 features. I would describe this as NetBeans 8.2 showing
> "angry red" for components it doesn't understand, such as f:validateWholeBean.
> As in the attached screenshot, an example error is "The component library Jsf
> Core does not contain component validateWholeBean".
> Here's the code from the screenshot:
> In the past, NetBeans releases were coordinated with Java EE releases. When
> Java EE 8 came out, I expected that NetBeans 9 would come out and support JSF
> 2.3. When we onboard new developers, I would rather not say to them, "It's ok
> to see angry red like this in NetBeans."
> Incidentally, during Ed's talk I asked if he knew if JSF 2.3 is supported by
> IntelliJ or Eclipse and he wasn't aware if they support it or not.

You are right: the "additional compiler options" field is there, but it takes
resizing the dialog window to approximately 10-20% more than the default
height. This is a workable solution, but still somewhat awkward. It would be
useful for all the fields of the dialog were visible initially.

Thank you for the support.

> IN NetBeans 11, and 11.1, selecting "Properties" on a project, and the
> Compiling (under Build), the dialog offers "Processor Options" of the form
> "-Akey=value." Most of the compiler options are not of this form
> (particularly) of the non-standard variety. (See attached jpeg).
> In NetBeans 8, this was just a text field.
> The work-around is to edit the project.properties file in the "nbproject"
> folder, where there is no (incorrect) presupposition of the form of the
> compiler options.
> This is a real problem for my Java language students (at the local Community
> College) where such workarounds are a distraction from learning the correct
> use of the IDE.

Building with JDK 11 first requires that you build the
{{nbbuild/external/vanilla-javac-*.jar}} archives. When you have {{$JAVA_HOME}}
set to JDK 11, these will fail to compile with errors similar to
{quote}package sun.reflect.annotation is declared in module java.base, which

As such, you need to first compile these using JDK 8 before compiling the rest
of the platform with JDK 11:

This exception occurs repeatedy after IDE is started, Java Maven project

exception occurs (this exception seems to break the background scanning because
it still consumes CPU but hasn't ever been finished):

Well, then install it and uninstall it afterwards. All I am trying to do is
establish whether the issue can be reproduced with a clean userdir and without
nb-javac.
