[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-4186) Stackoverflow error during scanning of projects

2020-04-17 Thread Thomas Kellerer (Jira)
Thomas Kellerer created NETBEANS-4186:
-

Summary: Stackoverflow error during scanning of projects
 Key: NETBEANS-4186
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4186
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 12.0
 Environment: Windows 10, OpenJDK 13, NetBeans 12.0-beta3
Reporter: Thomas Kellerer

I have cleared the "cache" subdirectory of my userdir, to force reindexing.

The background scanning completed and it seems to have worked. However the
problem reported showed the following exception

I still get an exception during refactoring with 11.2u1 (nb-javac version is
2.0.1 - the latest one from the update center).

It seems to be different this time, because I can't reproduce it with the
attached test project. However for legal reasons I can not attach the project
where this happens (which is much bigger).

Just to confirm: the same thing happens with a clean userdir:

*without* nb-javac -->rename works

After installing nb-javac (into the clean userdir) --> rename breaks again.

When I (only) de-active nb-javac I get a java.lang.AssertionError (see attached
file messages.log.2) - the same you mentioned

When I completely de-install nb-javac I don't get the exception.

When I (only) de-active nb-javac I get a java.lang.AssertionError (see attached

When I completely de-install nb-javac I don't get the exception.

I uploaded a video that shows the following steps:
 * Downloading NetBeans 11.1-beta2
 * Downloading the sample project from this Issue
 * Starting NetBeans 11.1-beta2 on an empty userdir
 * Opening the project
 * Trying to rename the method and the resulting error

Exactly the same thing happens when doing this with NetBeans 11.0

Description:
Whenever I refactor a class (e.g rename, move), or public methods of a class
NetBeans 10, 11 and 11.1-beta2 throws a NPE.

This is a multi-module Maven project.

The Java source that is mentioned in the error message is always a test class
using TestNG. I don't seem to get that error with projects that do not use
TestNG.

I have attached a complete Maven project that consistently reproduces this
problem on two different Windows computers with OpenJDK 11, 12 and Oracle JDK 11

Doing the refactoring with NetBeans 10 on the same project works without
problems.

Due to legal reasons I can not attach the source code that is part of the dump
file - I had to remove everything related to the "real" source and tried to
replace some path names revealing private information. I hope the files are
useful nevertheless

Thomas Kellerer commented on NETBEANS-2240:
---

This happens with NetBeans 10.0 as well.

I don't really do anything else.

I open the project, adjust the Java Platorm, run Clean & Build, Open the
MyService class, put the cursor on the "getAnswer()" method, then choose
"Refactor -> Rename", provide a different name and click on OK and then I get
the NullPointerException in
{noformat}
Caused: java.lang.NullPointerException
    at
jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.comp.TypeEnter$MembersPhase.runPhase(TypeEnter.java:934){noformat}
I tried with OpenJDK 11 and 12 (from AdoptOpenJDK) and with the Oracle JDK 11.

Tried with an empty UserDir as well.

This happens on two different computers (private and office) both running
Windows 10 (1803), one is Windows 10 Professional, the other Windows 10 Home.

I will record a video this evening showing all steps.

Works fine in 8.2

Note that you need to remove the dependency to the Oracle JDBC driver from the
pom.xml to be able to properly build the project as that isn't available in the
public maven repository (but is in the Artifactory of my company)

Yes, it seems this only happens with Maven projects using TestNB

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-2596) NetBeans isn't restored when secondary monitor is no longer attached

2019-05-24 Thread Thomas Kellerer (JIRA)
Thomas Kellerer created NETBEANS-2596:
-

Summary: NetBeans isn't restored when secondary monitor is no
longer attached
 Key: NETBEANS-2596
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-2596
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: ide - UI
Affects Versions: 11.0
Reporter: Thomas Kellerer

To reproduce:

Start NetBeans on a dual monitor system (e.g. a notebook with an external
monitor attached), then move NetBeans to the secondary display, then close it
while it's still active on the secondary.

Remove the secondary monitor and restart NetBeans. The IDE is invisible on the
(now only) primary monitor. Probably it restores itself to the (invisible, no
longer attached) secondary monitor.

This is on Windows 10 Enterprise, 1803 using:

openjdk version "11.0.2" 2018-10-16
OpenJDK Runtime Environment AdoptOpenJDK (build 11.0.2+7)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM AdoptOpenJDK (build 11.0.2+7, mixed mode)

[jira] [Updated] (NETBEANS-2240) NPE thrown when refactoring a class

Thomas Kellerer updated NETBEANS-2240:

Attachment: RefactorTestProject.zip

I managed to create a sample project where this problem occurs.

This also happens when the project is opened in NetBeans 10

The ZIP file contains the Maven project where this happens (RefactorTest), as
well as the logfiles (including the .dump) generated with NetBeans 10 and 11
(directories {{nb10-log}} and {{nb11-log}})

After opening the project, try to rename the method {{MyService.getAnswer()}}
to something different.

I tried OpenJDK as provided by AdoptOpenJDK, as well as the JDK 11.0.2 that can
be downloaded from the Oracle website.

It's pretty hard to debug (due to the dynamic nature of the visitors), but it
seems the exception always occurs when inspecting the constructor for a test
class that uses the method that is being renamed, and that test is not one for
the class in question.

OK, it seems the project group was not the cause.

It just happened again today. Re-Creating the group did not help. Switching the
group did not help. Nuking the userdir and starting NetBeans with a completely
empty userdir, did not help either.

In my attempt to isolate the problem into an independent Maven project, it
turned out that the project itself isn't the problem.
I switched to a different project group where the same project was open and
suddenly the refactoring worked without problems. So I re-created
(delete/create) my original project group and now the refactoring works there
as well.

Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to make a backup of my (defunct) project
group, but maybe that information helps. I might be that there were some
invalid paths stored in project group (as I moved around stuff in the file
system).

Whenever I refactor a class (e.g rename, move), or public methods of a class NB
11 throws a NPE.

This is a multi-module Maven project.

The Java source that is mentioned in the error message is always a test class
using TestNG. I don't seem to get that error with projects that do not use
TestNG.

Doing the refactoring with NetBeans 10 on the same project works without
problems.

Due to legal reasons I can not attach the source code that is part of the dump
file - I had to remove everything related to the "real" source and tried to
replace some path names revealing private information. I hope the files are
useful nevertheless

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1031) Exception after adding a Java Platform

Thomas Kellerer commented on NETBEANS-1031:

It seems more complicate than just "JDK not present".

I tried this with a very simply Maven Project, configure to use Java 8 and
opened it from a NetBeans 9.0 started with a completely empty userdir.

In that case "Project Properties -> Sources" can be displayed without an error
and the dropdown "Source/Binary Format" is set to 1.8

The drop down "Java Platform" in "Build -> Compile" contains a red entry
"Missing platform JDK_1.8" which is what I expected before I filed this issue
(and certainly not an exception).

I will try to find if I can strip down the project that fails to reproduce this
problem.

The steps to reproduce are the ones in my description.
I cannot share the project as that a customer project which I am not allowed to
disclose.

I think the main point is: a fresh NetBeans installation only has the JDK
available on which it runs. But the Maven project I opened was configured to
use Java 8 but that is not available until the Java platform is added.

This happens with every NetBeans project I open (with slightly different
stacktraces). It does not happen with Maven based projects.

Installing nb-javac seems to have fixed this.
