My team is also seeing a similar issue with Payara applications ever since 
NetBeans 11.0 (11.1 and 11.2 are broken in this regard as well).  NetBeans 8, 9 
and 10 all display the messages correctly.  We use logback, and from 11.0 on we 
only get |#] (that's pipe, hash, right square bracket) output to the NetBeans 
console instead of the log messages from our application.  This occurs running 
NetBeans under Windows and Linux and multiple JDK versions (8, 11, 13).  It 
also occurs under multiple Payara versions (5.184, 5.192, 5.193).  If I tail 
the server log, the messages are there, they are just not being displayed 
properly in the NetBeans console. 

In addition to getting empty application log messages, every Payara generated 
log message ends in "|#]" as well.

If I use a JUL logger in the application, then messages will be output to the 
NetBeans console.
