Hi,

I am Isuranga Perera, a final year undergraduate from University of Colombo
School of Computing. I participated GSoC 2017 and worked on WS-Trust
implementation for WSO2 Identity Server. I am looking forward to participate in
GSoC 2018, and this project looks an exciting one for me.

As the first step I went through the developer guidea and Hao's repo on
github[2]. Appreciate if you can guide me through next steps of the project.

Hello Isuranga, hello Hao and welcome back!

The student proposal submission period starts next week (March 12) and will be
open for 2 weeks, until March 27. You can use your existing account for login
to https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/ (students who are new to GSoC can
create new account). Students are encouraged to start a draft, so mentors can
review and make proposal (preferably on the public mailing list) before the
final submission deadline. It is good to ask questions on the mailing list.

Each students can submit up to 3 proposals. It is safer to submit more than one
proposal because each mentor at Apache can take only 1 student. Student
selection is done by Apache and Google on the basis of the quality of the
proposal, but also interaction with the community (for example through the
mailing list).

Hello Hao

Thanks for the link. Some suggestion I would like to do are:

* To put more emphasis on what is different compared to GSoC 2016. The previous
GSoC was mostly about mapping metadata to ISO 19115. This GSoC would be about
allowing discovery and distribution (through CSW) of those metadata.
* If some sentences are extracted from another document (for example the CSW
specification), this is okay but those sentences should be quoted and the
source should be declared.
* If you plan to build on top of 2016 CSW prototype, can you summarize its
design? (for example the role of the most important classes).

Hello Hao

The use case with a user visiting VNSC web site and searching for temperature
data, daily data, etc. is fine. But I have not seen a description of the
framework you would consider to use. You can name for example the J2EE classes
extended by the GSoC 2016 prototype. Or you can name another framework you want
to consider. This is not a commitment to use those frameworks - you can change
your mind during the GSoC. This is just an enumeration of some server
frameworks that could be used for doing the implementation. I suggest to name
at least the Java classes used by 2016 prototype.

I suggest to clarify that this GSoC is mostly about the server side. An
application may be done on the client side (the browser), but that would be a
side-effect; the main goal would be the server side. You can also said that the
web server application would be developed in the Apache SIS
{{application/sis-webapp}} module.

> as a part of task SIS-307. This project resulted in two main parts:
> * A reader capable to provides GeoTIFF information in a structure compliant
> with ISO 19115 standard.
> * A prototype of [Catalog Service for the

> with the help of Chinh – following the [standard published by the Open

> The GeoTIFF reader, which was the main topic of Hao's work, has been

> However the CSW part, which was a prototype, is not yet ported into Apache

> GeoTIFF and Landsat readers, together with other readers available in SIS:
> netCDF, Moving Features and GPX formats.

Hello Hao

This look fine for me. Do you want to post the URL on the developer mailing
list in case other person could comment before the deadline?

Isuranga, do you wish to post a URL too?
