[jira] [Created] (HADOOP-11105) MetricsSystemImpl could leak memory in registered callbacks

2014-09-18 Thread Chuan Liu (JIRA)
Chuan Liu created HADOOP-11105:
--

 Summary: MetricsSystemImpl could leak memory in registered
callbacks
 Key: HADOOP-11105
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-11105
 Project: Hadoop Common
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 3.0.0
Reporter: Chuan Liu
Assignee: Chuan Liu

In {{MetricsSystemImpl.register(final String name, final String description,
final T sink)}} method, we will also add a callback function to the
{{callbacks}} array list. However, upon unregistering, the callback function is
not removed from the list in existing code. As a result, the memory allocated
for the callback function could accumulate in the {{MetricsSystemImpl}} list.
In one of our cluster, we have seen a case where there are about 874 MB memory
retained by {{MetricsSystemImpl}}.

Time to address the Guava version problem

2014-09-18 Thread Steve Loughran
I know we've been ignoring the Guava version problem, but HADOOP-10868
added a transitive dependency on Guava 16 by way of Curator 2.6.

Maven currently forces the build to use Guava 11.0.2, but this is hiding at
compile timeall code paths from curator which may use classes methods
that aren't there.

I need curator for my own work (2.4.1 Guava 14.0 was what I'd been
using), so don't think we can go back.

HADOOP-11102 covers the problem -but doesn't propose a specific solution.
But to me the one that seems most likely to work is: update Guava

This is a follow up of HADOOP-10982 because jenkins is going funny with a test
class not found.

[jira] [Created] (HADOOP-11110) JavaKeystoreProvider should not report a key as created if it was not flushed to the backing file

2014-09-18 Thread Andrew Wang (JIRA)
Andrew Wang created HADOOP-0:

 Summary: JavaKeystoreProvider should not report a key as created
if it was not flushed to the backing file
 Key: HADOOP-0
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-0
 Project: Hadoop Common
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 2.5.0
Reporter: Andrew Wang

Testing with the KMS backed by JKS reveals the following:

{noformat}
[root@dlo-4 ~]# hadoop key create testkey -provider
kms://http@localhost:16000/kms
testkey has not been created. Mkdirs failed to create file:x
stack trace

[root@dlo-4 ~]# hadoop key list -provider kms://http@localhost:16000/kms
Listing keys for KeyProvider: KMSClientProvider[http://localhost:16000/kms/v1/]
testkey
{noformat}

The JKS still has the key in memory and serves it up, but will disappear if the
KMS is restarted since it's not flushed to the file.
